Food is delicious and they have a separate fryer for chips now! Staff checked on everything for me and they did a great job. Menu isn’t marked but many things can be made gf.

Went here for dinner and when the waiter brought out the chips I asked if they were in a dedicated fryer and he said yes so I started eating them. After 10 minutes when he came back to take our order he told me that he checked with the kitchen and they are NOT in a dedicated fryer. I didn’t feel safe ordering anything else as I was scared of having a reaction, thankfully I didn’t but it still scared me.

Since chips share a fryer they are not safe but the waitress offered cucumber slices to have with the beans and salsa and guacamole. Waitstaff was knowledgable just ASK.

The food was very good authentic Mexican (see picture) but I wouldn’t recommend it to Celiacs.

NOTE: Ask for the gluten-free corn tortillas specifically because their regular corn tortillas actually are a flour and corn mixture!!!

Great food! I have been here numerous times in the last few years and never had a reaction and I am SEVERELY celiac :) It’s loud and noisy, so communicate clearly and double check what was heard. The food is super delicious!

Excellent service and the staff here is pretty knowledgeable. Their homemade corn tortillas are not GF but they’ll tell you they have a GF tortilla, you just have to specify when you’re ordering. Definitely worth a trip downtown for some safe Mexican food.

Chips are GF (dedicated fryer) and food is delicious! Tacos made with corn tortillas that contain gluten, but if you ask they have GF option. Knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Super friendly and knowledgable staff! Our server pointed out the few things I couldn't have but said everything else could be made GF. I was very happy with the quality of the food and drinks, not to mention the service was impeccable. Definitely will return and add this spot to our regular rotation.

My husband is a super sensitive celiac and he LOVES MEXICAN FOOD! This place was fantastic and our waitress was so nice and knowledgable about what he could have and she said they would make sure everything was prepared safely for him. Their food portions are nice and big so he's not having to order multiple items to fill up on. Cheaper than when we eat at Mikuni's!!! We have a new regular spot on our date days!

It's generally pretty easy to get gluten free options at Mexican/Spanish restaurants. However WARNING stay away from the complimentary mole sauce they give you with the chips! Didn't think to ask about it and it definitely hit me. But other than that you should be fine

I was a little skeptical after seeing the menu, however the server was fairly knowledgeable explained which items could be made GF and which were off limits (sadly, the mole sauce has flour).

The chips and salsas are indeed safe, and after eating way too many of those, I went with one of the enchiladas dishes, which arrived in a generous portion. The food was good, and most importantly, no issues afterwards.

YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Oh my gosh, being unable to dine out safely at most places, I was THRILLED to find that the chef was very familiar with the needs of people who need to be gluten free. For some of us it is a medical prescription for a disease that has no cure. The only "cure" is to be totally gluten free. We have found 3 places in the Sacramento area that are safe every time we go there... PF Chang's, Star Ginger (great Pad Thai!) and Red Robin, oh and they did accommodate me at Burgers and Brew (without a bun). I was THRILLED to add this wonderful Mexican restaurant to our list! The food was soooooo yummy! And it was like being a "normal" person, ordering off of a normal menu. What a treat! I would put this at the top of my list of favorites...everything was so fresh and yummmmy! Tried Chipotle but found massive cross contamination. When I called Zocalo's to make sure they really did have a GF menu, they assured me that they did, and a dedicated fryer.. When we arrived and were seated, they brought a basket of chips and salsa, so I asked the waiter if the chips were gluten free, or cooked in a dedicated fryer, and he said... nope, sorry, and I was very disappointed. I thought that was VERY strange, so I asked again, and he said he'd go check. Sure enough, he came back and said, yes they are gluten free. YAY! Things got better from there. He recommended the fish tacos for me, and enchiladas with mole sauce for my gluten eating husband. Mine was SOOOOO good, with that fresh lime juice squeezed on it, it really gave it a nice fresh little kick. The tacos were served with lime rice and black beans. after eating two of the tacos, I had to pass the third to my hubby, and he loved it too, but we were both stuffed when we left! We will happily be going back real soon.

Wonderful experience. We clarified that it is the chef's sister that has Celiac. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free; just stay away from the mole sauce, flour tortillas, and chile relleno. We were treated with amazing service and felt very supported in ordering gluten free. To top it all off, the food was absolutely amazing- gluten free or not!
