I had to go GF two years ago and am very sensitive to cross-contamination, so I get nervous trying new places I haven’t eaten at since going GF. I used to love J. Gumbo’s and finally decided to try it again since they have GF marked on the menu and thankfully I’ve had absolutely no reaction! We ordered through a food delivery service, and even though it said we couldn’t ask for allergy adjustments, we put in the notes section to please leave out the bread and try to avoid cc and they obviously took the request seriously, which I appreciate so much! We love the food, so I’m so happy this is an option for me again!!
Fantastic food and workers. I asked Qs about gluten and cross contamination, and they were knowledgeable. Lots of options— they ended up giving me free samples of everything GF as I sat waiting for my group. I don’t live nearby but may make the drive just for the gumbo!
Quick place. A lot of options
Permanently closed location
I have been coming to this Jay Gumbo's for years. I can't say enough positive about this place. The employees are trained in allergies and cross contamination.
But the real reason to come here, is for the sense of community. It's surprising to see in a chain restaurant like this, but this one really does have its own personality. The owner is deeply involved in local events and host all kinds of neat things especially with a focus on children. I once attended a free rock painting class here.
Before finding out I had celiac disease, my family and I used to eat here monthly. The owners are some the friendliest/nicest people I have ever met. When we went there the other day and I told them I was celiac they made special precautions for my food and half way through eating they came to check on me and make sure I wasn’t having a reaction (I’m super sensitive to gluten). I had zero reaction and loved the extra care they took to make sure I did not have a reaction.
Food was super tasty and staff was knowledgeable
Wow. Great flavorful food clearly marked. Our new fav in Cranberry!
Pleasantly surprised to find GF options on their menu labled as such. The food is excellent as well! Very nice people. Show the business some love!
First of all, their menu denotes what's GF and what can be made GF. I ordered the voodoo nachos, and the jambalaya/honey siracha chicken combo bowl. The rice from the jambalaya tames down the spice from the chicken if you're not a fan of lots of spice. Amazing flavors! The voodoo nachos were yummy, but I didn't eat their chips because they weren't guaranteed GF. I had some tortilla chips at home (did I mention I did delivery lol) and used them instead. Delicious! And the meals were enough for 2 people or 2 meals for most people! I didn't get sick and I call that a success in my book! I have added them to my list of places to order from! I can't guarantee the chips if you eat in house, but have some tortilla chips on hand if you do take out or delivery. You won't be disappointed!
Menu clearly marked and knowledgeable staff. Great spice and flavor.
Allergen menu with a wide variety of allergens indicated. Plenty options to choose from, even with my multitude of allergies. Very authentic Cajun. Whole family loved their food.
Food tastes great and they have an allergens chart posted next to the register. Friendly proprietor and helpful staff.Great to have another cuisine option!
The food and service are both fantastic! Lots of gluten free choices. I loved the bumblebee stew! Definitely coming back.
Excellent food and free samples if you have a tough time choosing something
This was a very tasty lunch. The 3 of us ate for $23 with two having the jambalaya and one had the bumble bee stew (see picture). The entrees are rated by spiciness - the jambalaya level one and the bumble bee stew level three. Both were delicious. The bumble bee stew had a nice kick. We'd definitely eat here again when in the area. The parking nearby in the parking ramps are expensive- $12 for an hour, so if you can find on street or take public transit.
Great food. Quick service. I found J. Gumbo's on the app. I'm glad I tried it. In addition to gluten allergies I also have egg and shellfish allergies. The manager Brandon made sure to listen to my needs. He assured me that they take care to keep the allergens seperated from the rest. They had numerous GF options too. Very impressed.
Love this restaurant. Menu is clearly marked for GF items. The staff could not have been nicer and really made us feel like appreciated customers. I'd recommend the white bean chili if you can handle spicy. My husband and son enjoyed the red beans and rice and jambalaya.
their options are clearly labeled on the menu and their nutritional facts are clear online.
My family of 4 stopped in and they had 6 gluten free options marked clearly on the menu. We chose three, plus some nachos. The food portions were huge, the flavor was delicious, and the price point was amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. In fact, next time we are driving through the area, my sister and I agreed that we would go and get take out just to heat up later- it's that good. Gluten free Cajun is HARD to find! :-) it is an open kitchen, so I couldn't recommend for celiacs, but my concern would be minimal considering the nature of the food.
Very good and helpful for gluten free folks!!
Excellent choice of cajun meals, and their menu specifies what is gluten free!
Awesome! Many choices. It is like chipotle with your topping (stew, jambalaya, chicken...) on top of rice. Ask for samples! Staff was great.
