— Separate gluten-free menu
Looked so promising: gluten free menu, waitress told the chef about the allergy and careful note taking. BUT came with the roe which the menu says wasn’t gluten free: the waitress said she double checked with the chef but my husband had symptoms after. Definitely cross contamination at minimum.
Service was great. They were out of gluten free soy sauce and the sushi I ordered had spice from the cutting board or knife so they remade mine which was nice. I suspect cross contamination due to them using the same equipment but everyone else at the table enjoyed their food.
For the most part our experience was great. I told them I had celiac but my plate came out with wasabi on it. I asked if the wasbi was gluten free and I was informed it was not. They did have gluten free soy sauce and the menu did have labels for GF.
Gluten free menu and the staff was very knowledgeable. They were also open to asking questions of me if unsure. GF soy sauce and sushi rice which was amazing. Takes a little longer for them to prep but it’s worth it!
Prior to my gluten free life I was a huge Asian food and sushi person. In general the sushi didnt taste the best. It was sushi but didnt have much taste. The server was made aware of my gluten issues and I ordered off the gluten free menu. The rice from 2 pieces of sashimi tasted different than the rest, sweeter. I leaned over to my husband and told him im pretty sure im going to get sick. And i did. Nice restaurant and nice staff but not safe enough for me to risk it again
Stopped here while visiting Austin. I had not had a good experience with sushi since being diagnosed. I've never gotten sick anywhere, but that's mainly because I always order boring rolls. This place was a refreshing change. The menu is clearly marked with gluten free options. I would not say it was a huge amount, but enough to get some good variety and have a good meal. This was a good walk down memory lane for me to remind me why sushi is such a magical food, and not just boring rolls with no flavor. I was a little confused when I ordered an appetizer (yakitori I think?) that was marked gluten free on the menu, but was then told that the sauce it came with was not gluten free, so in the end it was just skewered pieces of unseasoned grilled chicken with sauce on the side for my wife to dip in. Not really gluten free is it? Oh well, just get another sushi roll instead.
First sushi experience after my Celiac diagnosis. I was pretty nervous and was really happy that they took me seriously, offered me their gluten free menu, and let me know they also have gluten free soy sauce!
Do not go here if u r celiac. Waitress was clueless. Told me the ginger dressing was GF. Ate some but got nervous and asked someone else...Not GF....try so hard....don't trust this place.
Great gluten free and vegan menu. They even had gluten free items on the happy hour menu. Our waiter was very helpful and made sure everything was taken care of. They have gluten free soy sauce as well. Everything was wonderful! Can't wait to go back.
As other reviewer's mentioned, the menu is clearly marked for GF. But you may have to flip through the menu to know the ingredients. Lots of options, tasted very delicious. I'd recommend it, and if I'm back in San Antonio, I'll be there again. Good atmosphere too, pretty quiet. They have a small bar area with a TV in case you want that
I was very impressed with the food and the service at this restaurant. Our server, David, was very knowledgeable about what was gluten free and what wasn't. He even made a few recommendations and I was very pleased with everything. I am very sensitive and get sick easily, but this restaurant kept me safe.
Went there because they had assure me they had gluten free rolls. I tried the scallop roll and some salmon roll. Got very sick there had to of been some cross contamination. As a celiac don't go there. If you don't have celiac disease they try it out they are very good.
I've eaten at this location twice and gotten sick both times! Each time my waitress assured me everything l ordered was gluten fee-and they notified the chef about my allergy.... but still ended up super sick!
Ooh my! What ant amazing variety of food available. My son and I were able to try tools we had never heard of before :) Everything tasted great, even the left overs. :) our server for the evening had chosen to go gluten free.
If your craving sushi and have celiac disease like I do, feel free to go here. Service was not as good as it could be. But the waiter was nice and listened to my concerns. The menu does suck, it lists the sushi roll items in the back that are gluten free but doesn't list the ingredients. So you have to flip through the 7 page menu find the item to see what's in it and if that's what you want. They did prepare my meal separately to avoid cross contamination and also brought me GF soy sauce. I get sick easily and I feel fine. I had 3 sushi rolls! All were good. It does take some time to get your food but it's sushi, and they have to prepare it special to suit our GF needs so I didn't mind being patient.
The GF menu is listed in the back, but you have to go back and forth and cross reference it through the menu. They have other menu items very clearly marked as vegan or cooked or spicy. There should be no reason for them to not mark the menu so that GF is easily spotted as well. Looking through the menu was so difficult that though they are somewhat gluten friendly, it's not likely we will be back. Took us 15 minutes to cross reference the GF page with the rest of the menu. There is no reason good miso soup or seaweed salad can't be made without gluten. And yet here, we could not get it GF. Bummer experience. :-(
