Amazing IceCream! They have lots of unique flavors and they know which are safe and not safe for celiac disease. Probably the most impressive thing was since the tubs have cross contamination, the server opened small pints even just so I could try a flavor. I felt so safe and loved the ice cream

This ice cream shop had 4 gluten free flavors! Three of those flavors are also vegan! I had peanut butter brittle caramel ice cream and it was DELICIOUS! The staff is very knowledgeable about gluten as well.

Horrible!! Told them I have celiac/gluten allergy and was told by server that he will “allergy scoop” from the back. Ordered 2 flavors and was given one correct flavor and one incorrect flavor, which was chocolate brownie fudge… I went in an told the server who apologized, offered to recoup, which I declined obviously, and gave me a coupon for a free scoop “next time”. Don’t recommend. The flavor I did try before I noticed was delicious though.

Menu isn’t labeled but they have one if you ask. There is a standard one and a smaller one with the seasonal flavors. There were quite a few options. The my asked me if cross contact is an issue and then went in the back to get a new tub and new scooper, all without me asking. Surprised by how they took it upon themselves and made everything seamless.

Fantastic experience! When I told them I had a gluten allergy, they pulled out their allergy book to let me know what was safe. Then they asked me what I’d like to try and took out fresh pints from their freezer so I could try different options…so decadent! I tried the peanut butter brittle and freckled mint chip. They have a list of gluten free flavors you just have to ask. They cross contaminate the spoons but are happy to get the flavor from the back with a clean spoon. Overall recommend. We got the vanilla and sea salt with Carmel ribbons and it was very good!

Beyond the obvious — having GF flavors and good ones, they were amazing about minimizing risk. Just mentioning Celiacs and they offered to scoop from a fresh pint to avoid CC. Felt like a hassle to ask but they seemed totally fine about it and certainly good to know.

Obviously wafflecones are out however.

NOT SAFE: There was no posted information available regarding which items were GF. I asked one of the employees about one of the options and was told it was GF. I tasted a sample but chose to order something else. On the way home I started feeling a bit ill. I contacted the company headquarters and was told that the ice cream I sampled contained wheat.

Service was also poor in general. Not recommended.

My experience was amazing! I have to be dairy free, soy free as well as celiac. They don't have the GF flavors listed, but I asked and they had a list of GF flavors. The server washed her hands, changed her gloves and got a new cartoon and scope to scope from. They don't have GF cones, but the ice cream was so delicious, it didn't matter. Their vegan ice creams are a coconut base. Enjoyed and didn't get sick!!!!

Went here twice during our week at Disney and each time the employees were very kind and patient. Both times got vanilla and the lavender honey in a cup which they scooped from the back. Didn’t get sick either time and the ice cream is delicious

I’ve had good experiences here and the scoopers have always been willing to scoop from a fresh tub for me but there’s a lot of staff so no guarantee. The only downside is a lot of the flavors are not gluten free.

They were super accommodating for my daughter and we’re careful to explain the choices for celiac (4 of approx 12 flavours). They got her icecream from unopened containers with a clean scoop to ensure there was no cross contamination. She felt super happy to have this safe treat, and bonus on holiday when there’s very few choices safe for her. Very Highly recommend

If you alert them you have an allergy/intolerance they pull a pint from the freezer, microwave it a smidge, and use a new scoop to make your ice cream! Really appreciated them doing that even if it was a long line out the door. They can pull up an allergen menu to confirm the flavor is safe too. Only like 3-4 dairy free options if that matters.

Salt & Straw takes allergens pretty seriously, this was yet another successful experience at one of their locations. Long line but it moved quickly.

Upon ordering simply mentioned celiac/gluten 'allergy' - I knew what I wanted was GF before I arrived, half honey lavender half strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper. My sever wanted to double check anyway on his allergen list which I appreciated. He asked if he could make the rest of my parties ice cream then would do mine in the back from unopened containers/clean scoop. It took quite some time so I have faith their implemented allergen procedures were followed. Ice cream was excellent, especially the strawberry my favorite! Many GF options available!

So many ice cream places will not accommodate me on getting ice cream from clean containers in the back so I really appreciate Salt & Straw making this easy at any location. Training goes a long way and it shows!

Finally tried this place after much hype from my students over the years. I must say I wasn’t overly impressed. It was good though not great. I appreciated the vegan options (better than most) and their precautions to prepare my ice cream separately since I must be gluten free. They were also knowledgeable about which flavors were GF without having to check or look it up. Good place although not the best in LA area.

I got a peanut butter brittle flavor— so good!

This place was so lovely!!! They got it immediately, let me try three (3!) flavors (they offered even after I was like “no that’s so much trouble”) from new pints, and then scooped mine in the back from the new pint. They were so understanding. After a tough week on a work trip and feeling left out a lot, this was such a lovely and affirming experience. And there vegan flavors (coconut base) are so so good; perfect for us celiac babes who have become lactose intolerant as well. Only a few flavors had gluten, so there are plenty of options. I will be returning here every time I’m in Portland.

Horrendous!!! I ordered the mint chocolate, which supposedly gluten free and about 45 mins later, I am having major constipation with a massive amount of cold sweats. I was definitely suffering and at the same time my hands and feet were tingling and continued all night!!!!

reiterating what another reviewer already said - they are very cautious when you inform them of any allergy. they check their cheat sheet for each flavor you want to sample, and then once you’ve picked your flavor they will either use a fresh “allergy scoop” or just go all the way to the back to scoop it from an unused tub. really appreciate the care and attention to detail. super kind and helpful staff too! not to mention the ice cream is fabulous. do yourself a favor and get some ice cream here!!! there is no clear indication on the menu of what’s GF (it’s sort of the obvious cookie dough/brownie/etc type flavors that aren’t) but have no fear, they will make sure a flavor is safe before handing you a sample.

At both this location and the one on Abbot-Kinney in Venice they are extremely diligent. They use fresh scoops and a new container from the back, even for a simple taste. Totally worth the wait, cost, calories & hype!!

So many gluten-free options! The servers had lists posted by each freezer so they could advise me as to which flavors were safe. My only tiny complaint was that they used the same spoons for all the flavors. But, they did sit in water between flavors. I'm sure they would have used a new spoon had I asked. No ill effects for me, except for some discomfort as a result of eating 2-1/2 big scoops of ice cream! 😉

The best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had. The mint chip was so creamy and decadent that it was impossible to tell the difference between the non vegan ice cream.

You have the option to get your scoops in a bowl and watch them prepare all of the orders so I knew there wasn’t any cross contamination with the waffle cones or ice cream containing gluten.
