My daughter and I both have celiac and we were with a huge group of gluten eating pizza fans. They said they made everything separately and cooked the pizza on a pan in the oven. They even brought our pizza out separately with gloves. Seemed pretty informed and we both had no issues.
You’d have to be nuts to eat here as someone with celiacs. They make their GF pizza on the same surface as their regular pizza. There’s a 100% risk of cross contact. I used to love their pizza before I got diagnosed, but unfortunately it’s just not an option anymore. I probably wouldn’t even eat a salad here as they do not train staff on cross-contact risk.
This was the sickest I have ever gotten eating out. I had no issue at the Bethany location so I tried Columbia. I’m worried that they gave me the wrong crust based on how sick I was.
Update: They described the two crusts and it seems I likely had the GF crust. They will be reviewing the video of my pizza prep to see if there was a break down in process.
I had not been back here in three years because the crust they used to use would stick to your teeth. Just gave it another try and am happy I did. They have two gluten-free crust choices. The personal traditional pizza was delicious. The crust was very close to a normal pizza crust. I could tell it was gluten-free because my fellow diners’ personal pizzas had a different bottom pattern. I was told that they would avoid cross contact and used to dedicated pizza slicer. On my next visit, I tried new Detroit style. It was also safe, but I definitely prefer but traditional.
My favorite beach pizza was excited to find out it’s gluten free. Any of their pizzas can be made on the gluten free crust (I got a bianco). I’m lactose intolerant but took lactaid so I can eat the cheese. Also asked about the fries being gluten free and they confirmed and had them baked instead of fried. So delicious could eat this every day!
Amazing Detroit style gluten free pizza. On menu labeled gluten free- didn’t have to ask. Great experience
I have to admit I wasThoroughly surprised at how good the gluten-free pizza was
I ordered a gluten free pizza and was served one with gluten (by a food runner, not our original waitress). I realized the taste wasn’t right when I got to the crust of my first slice. Went to the bathroom, made myself get sick, and the waitress was very apologetic and made me a GF one to go. Once I knew I was in the clear, the GF crust was really good! But wish there would have been better communication.
Pretty decent GF pizza. Nice and crispy and good selection of toppings. Our server was excellent in telling us about their crust and accommodating. I unfortunately am not able to do dairy at the moment but the pizza was still tasty without it. Nothing else on the menu was marked GF but I am sure they had options. We did come 2x while in Milford. First time I got sausage and peppers. Second time pepperoni and jalapeños. I preferred the pepperoni over their sausage.
Unfortunately when I tried their gf pizza I ended up with a reaction. I made sure waitress knew and that she talked to the kitchen to let them know I have celiac disease. Pizza was wonderful but I reacted not long after we left. Very disappointed as I was hoping I would be ok as it tastes like their regular pizza. Somewhere there was cross contamination. Separate pans and utensils but should have talked to manager about changing gloves and maybe fresh cheese and sauce. Or they are not as careful as last year.
When I ate an entire GF 9” pizza in 10 minutes …. My family wasn’t sure what to say….. seriously the BEST GF pizza I’ve ever had. Really felt like I was eating real pizza. Thank you Grotto!!!
I’ve found this to be the only safe pizza to eat in Ocean City. They’re always super reliable and some of the other places made me nervous. They use separate pans and utensils for cutting/making the pizza! I believe it is all cooked in the same oven, so if that would bother you just be aware of that. Pizza size is like a personal pizza, it’s a good portion for me but some might need 2 or 3. I like a lot of sauce so I would ask for extra since it doesn’t come with very much. Great pizza and very affordable as well!
I ate in while at the boardwalk and asked about GF options. They have a GF pizza dough and said they would change gloves and clean the area, but they do NOT have a dedicated GF prep area or a GF oven. No GF menu for other items. Ultimately I got a salad and requested them to make it with GF protections since it was obvious I could not safely get the pizza or anything else on the menu.
I ordered a gluten-free pizza & informed the cashier that I had a gluten allergy, and he wrote that information on the pizza box & told me the kitchen staff would be aware of it. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable. Sadly, I was not at all impressed by the taste of the pizza. The crust was very soggy, and the flavor was not very appetizing. Before being diagnosed with Celiac, I loved Grotto pizza, but I don't think I will ever be returning for their GF pizza.
I have eaten several (at least 10) gluten free pizzas here without a single issue. Staff knowledge seems to vary and there have been times that I was nervous ordering but have never had any celiac symptoms following a meal there. Cook shared that they use a gluten free screen underneath all theGF pizzas during preparation and baking.
I've taken digestive enzymes because they don't assure the GF pizza is GF. No other options available and staff isn't knowledgeable. Worst GF tasting pizza for the highest price that I've found.
I was in town visiting and craving pizza. Their gluten free pizza was good but a little on the bland side. The crust had a buttery flavor which I liked. Did not appear to be the standard udis etc used by most places.
GF pizza is better than other places in the area but nothing special. Overpriced for what you get but for a pizza night with the family at the beach, it is my preferred choice.
We had a late lunch and got the gluten free regular cheese pizza. The waitress was able to explain the prepping and cooking of the gluten free pizza. I thought the pizza was good. The gluten free crust is thicker than their regular crust, in my opinion, which made the pizza crust more softer and doughier taste but that did not bother me. My husband, who is not celiac, also had the pizza and enjoyed it as well. I felt safe eating here.
