gluten “friendly,” as they have a separate gf menu but I am unsure of their efforts to eliminate cross contamination in the kitchen. Steaks are prepared gluten free. Full disclaimer: I did get sick after eating dinner here, but it’s possible I could have gotten glutened at the restaurant at which I had lunch.

Couldn’t eat there because their handicap elevator doesn’t work. Very difficult for those in a wheelchair to eat when there are steps up to the seating

Honestly… it was food, it was fine. Nothing amazing stood out about it. Nothing was bad about it either. They were busy, server did what she had to do and nothing else. No one got sick (3 celiacs) so I would call it a fine experience.

Wonderful place. I asked for a gluten free menu and received one. They claimed to have gluten free bread and we waited a while for a toasted Udi’s bun, but at least they tried. I had a burger with anoyher Udi’s bun and it was delicious. Would not recommend the fries. Steak was great.

I meant to put 5/5 stars. I don't know when this got changed, before I submitted my review.
I have been several times and the wait-staff has done very well so far, taking care of my gluten intolerance (Celiac) and other food allergies. Normally, a manager will come out and talk with me about my specific questions before my food is prepared.

If you have celiac, or have a medical need to avoid gluten DO NOT EAT HERE!!! After explaining to my waiter that I have celiac disease and need my food to be gluten free he made a comment essentially saying how he didn't believe that someone could require a gluten free diet. I reiterated that it was medically necessary and he acted as if he was just joking about the previous comment. Long story short, I got incredibly sick eating here. The staff does not take gluten free seriously.

I had some my research beforehand and knew to ask for the gluten free menu (actually referred to as 'gluten sensitive'). There was a decent selection of options, although less for me as I am also dairy intolerant. I was offered gluten free bread so I didn't feel left out when they brought the usual beer bread to the table, and even without butter it was surprisingly good. I ordered a steak which was perfect and everything went very smoothly. I was not asked any questions by the server but personally I was ok with that - it's the first meal out in months where I haven't felt like a nuisance to be honest. Will definitely return! My only slight negative is there are no prices on the GF menu.

By far the best experience I’ve had with ordering gluten free food. They have a separate gluten free menu and a dedicated kitchen space. The staff is knowledgeable and if they don’t know they’ll ask someone who does. Didn’t get sick and left very full and happy.
The best part? I got to eat gluten free bread with everyone!

Despite they don't have a lot of choice for coeliacs, I have had a delicious steak. The staff really knows about gluten and coeliacs disease. They have a gluten-sensitive menu, although most items on here still have a fairly high risk of cross contamination. The manager advised me a steak with mashed potatoes and boiled broccoli, with these items they can reduce the risk of cross contamination to a absolute minimum. The steak was delicious and I didn't get any symptoms afterwards

They have a gluten sensitive menu but not gluten free. I had to send back my salad (croutons) and then my burger that they brought on a regular bun.
The food is good but the staff needs to be educated on special diet needs. Thank goodness I questioned everything and sent the plates back. I hate being that customer but dang.
My trust in this restaurant is wavering.

Gluten friendly menu. I mentioned to the waitress that I have to eat gluten free and she had the manager come over to answer any questions on food items. I ate the filet with salad and baked potato. Since it was mentioned that they have gluten free bread, I asked and turned out to be a hamburger bun toasted. Still tasted good. Other then feeling full, did not feel ill after eating dinner. Portions were a good size so if you are hungry you will be full. We weren't able to reserve a table online but called about an hour ahead and were placed on a wait list by giving your phone number.

Pretty awful all around. They have a gluten sensitive menu, very small, basically steaks and a couple “burgers”. Menu says gluten sensitive bun but the server told me they don’t have buns. I ended up with ribs and mashed potatoes because I didn’t trust anything else. Was very disappointed in them not having buns. Also, none of the steaks or chicken or shrimp can have their seasoning on it, their marinade or basting sauce contains gluten so plain meat or shrimp is it. Will not return

Fool me twice, shame on me.
We had 2 bad experiences here, about 8 months apart

Server was dismissive of my communication that I'm gluten free and was very condescending. (Should note that my husband and I have been servers for many years ourselves & are very gracious when interacting at food service establishments) I ordered rattlesnake tails off of the gluten free menu and they came out deep fried! I specifically reminded him GF when ordering, as well. When I told the server that I clearly will get sick if I eat this, he was VERY snippy and asked if I just wanted the manager to walk me through every single item on the menu. I never did see the manager. About 10 minutes after he insisted that it was fine and was so rude to me, he returned with a new plate, where they were grilled. He did not collect the contaminated plate from us and we had to ask someone else to clear it. Salad came out with croutons, I never got my soup. Margarita did not arrive until the bill did. Chalked it up to one terrible server.

The gluten free menu was gone & no one was knowledgeable about gluten. I ordered what I usually would - grilled salmon with green beans & salad. I learned afterward that the green bean recipe has changed and they are NO longer gluten free, and I was assured that they were. My salmon came out totally bare and overdone. (Not even salt!) Clearly the move of an undertrained cook who is being extra cautious - which I appreciate to a point, but it does not make me feel safe.
Spoke to management who was apologetic but did not offer to fix it or seem to have any knowledge of menu items either. We left without eating.
I will never return to this Saltgrass again.

This Saltgrass has a gluten free menu. I ordered and my waiter saw me with the special menu and asked what allergies I had so he could mark it on the order. I told him and ordered off the GF menu. My food came. I was talking with family at the table and didn't pay attention to my food. My meat was to have come with cheese & tomatoes, but came with onions, mushrooms & what looked to be gravy. I ate a few bites, realized something wasn't right, and discussed with my family. We still had the GF menu at the table and looked item up. It was wrong. Called the waiter over. He looked at it and said I was fixed the regular meal and called the manager. The waiter had entered the item correctly but the cook staff did not follow it PLUS the waiter didn't pay attention to the food when it was delivered. The manager came over, asked how I was feeling, took item off the ticket, etc. He did asked if I wanted him to fix anything else, but that answer was a firm NO! While I appreciate all that, it didn't help with the fact that I was sick a little later. Thank goodness I stopped eating when I did. If you have Celiac like me and go to this restaurant, make sure you pay close attention to your meal BEFORE you take a bite. I'm normally more observant. I do not want anyone else to experience the hurting, nausea, etc that I did on the 2 hour ride home. It was miserable. I rated the taste low on scale due to the issue and my soup and mashed potatoes were not as expected - very little flavor.

Googling Saltgrass and finding that there was a gluten-free menu, bread, and a variety of gluten free options, I even checked out other find-me gluten free listings. This restaurant does not live up to that whatsoever. There is no gluten free menu, all the options listed as gluten-free online are not gluten free at this location and the server was not knowledgeable . In fact, she did not even know what gluten even was. She was a fantastic server but there are few gluten free options, nothing is listed on the menu, so you are basically stumbling in the dark on this one.

I went on Christmas Day, and they were absolutely SLAMMED. I was given the GF menu and was pleasantly surprised by how many choices there were and how knowledgeable the bartender was on preparation protocols (it was to go). I’m very sensitive to cross contamination, but I never reacted. If they can pull it off with a 90 minute wait for a table, then I’m impressed!!!

When we visit Lake Charles, we eat at Saltgrass inside the Golden Nugget at least once a day. We’ve been here over 20 times and have never had an issue, and I’ve never gotten sick. The baked potato soup is really tasty, the salads are very good (love their ranch!). The shrimp appetizers are good….the cooked one is usually really spicy, though! The steaks, ribs, and salmon are all really good!

My husband and I eat at this location all the time. The key is to always get the manager involved right away. Let them know you need your food celiac safe. I always ask for them to clean the grill, knowing it might take a little longer to get our food. We will drive out of our way to go to this location bc the staff at this location makes us feel most comfortable. We’ve gone to other locations and I have gotten sick, or the manager gave me an attitude or did not show they cared about my concerns. I get the GF salmon, non basted, so it’s just olive oil and 7 spice seasoning. I cannot have the dressings, so they let me do raw steamed broccoli instead of a salad. Never been sick at this specific location and I am super sensitive.
