Went to the Metro diner for breakfast. They can only offer gf toast. Not cooked separately. The waitress didn’t even know where a gf menu was. Stay away if your celiac

I love Metro Diner. They are incredibly accommodating, have a large gluten free menu, and take careful precautions. Their gluten free substitutions are very high quality (the sandwich buns are some of the best gf buns I’ve had, you can’t even tell) and many of their items are already gluten free. I’ve never gotten sick here, or at any Metro location, and the waitress here even went above and beyond to make sure I was safe and comfortable. Delicious food, fun atmosphere, and I feel great!

They have a gluten free menu upon request. Servers were very knowledgeable and were upfront about the fact that there was no fryer dedicated to GF food. They recommended substitutions for fries and tater tots because they couldn’t ensure that fries would be safe

My mother-in-law ‘loves a diner’ and Metro is our spot - about once a month. I’ve only been diagnosed w celiac disease for 3 months so I’m still navigating it all but I was very impressed w/ Metro. They do not have ‘GF’ indicated on the menu but I’ve had multiple waitresses be very aware and helpful when I tell them ‘celiac’. I usually get an omelet and grits and GF toast. FYI - I asked and they buy Udi’s brand (from Publix) - which is actually very good GF bread.

The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I do wish they had more child friendly GF options though. My daughter had mashed potatoes and veggies and was happy but it was a little unremarkable.

A lot more gluten free options than I expected! The bread slices are the size of normal bread slices and not those little tiny ones you usually find at grocery stores. It's not a designated gluten free kitchen but if you tell your server its an allergy they take extra precautions.

They have a gluten free menu, but not somewhere I would trust 100%. The server has VERY little knowledge about the menu, and when I asked to speak with the manager, the server just left and then repeated what the manager told her. I didn’t get sick, which is the most important part, but I probably won’t come back if there’s other choices. I asked if they used soybean oil in cooking and the server didn’t know. She said the only thing safe for me to eat would be fruit. Ended up getting a BLT

I have eaten at the Metro Diner 2 times in the past week. The first time was take out and the second time was dining on the back patio with my husband, our great dane, my dad and his border collie. Bothe experiences were awesome. The food is delicious and the staff and management are very friendly. The managers and most of the servers are well educated in what needs to be done for someone with celiac disease. The managers continue to educate their staff. Brittany, one of the managers, is amazing!

I went out with my family after they excitedly came back and reported they had gluten free items and seemed to be very knowledgeable. While I openly admit my food was pretty good cross contamination is an issue here. I ordered a burger on the gluten free toast instead of a bun and got sick as a dog after. I have never gone back sense.

The service was great, but the food wasn't very flavorful. I will also say that I had to double-check with them that when they brought my burger out that my bun was gluten free, well it wasn't but the server was so extremely apologetic and I could tell she really meant it. I ended up having the breakfast burger and besides being unseasoned, it was a delicious burger.

Haley was our server and did a fantastic job! She was very friendly, very fast, and checked in on us to make sure we had enough drinks, and that our food was properly prepared.
I was very pleased to see a large gluten-free menu, Haley also explained that they do change their gloves and take precautions - that's all you can ask for.
The people that eat gluten enjoyed fried chicken and waffles, fried chicken Benedict, and more! I enjoyed eggs with real hashbrowns and sausage. I can't tell you the last time I had real hashbrowns! Portion sizes are absolutely huge, flavor is good, prices are very reasonable.
It was great to come in and not have to wait for a table, by time we left a little bit after nine they were jampacked.
It's always great to have another restaurant on the roster where my entire family and friends can enjoy a little bit of everything.
It's been eight years plus since I have had food from here, reading terrific reviews about how they handle gluten-free is the only reason I decided to try the food again. I'm super glad that I did! In the past, I would just come and watch everybody eat :-)

They have a separate gluten free menu that is basically items from their main menu and then telling you how to ask for it gluten free, which was cool. I went here with my partner and I ordered the double decker BLT on gluten free bread. He ordered the double decker BLT but normal. His came with mayo and sauce and toasted bread. Mine came with no mayo, no sauce, and on dry crumbly ends of gluten free loaves. I asked what they use for mayo and it’s not gluten free. If I had known that I wouldn’t have ordered this.
The waitress told me fries are gluten free so I said are you sure, she said yes. I asked if the fries were fried in their own fryer and not with the chicken tenders and she said “oh, no their all the same fryer. I guess it isn’t gluten free.”
I didn’t get sick, but it was kind of scary her claiming stuff was gluten free when it wasn’t and the sandwich was awful with dry lettuce and bread. It was like eating a sleeve of saltines.

It had a GF menu with GF buns. Atmosphere was nice and clean. I had a Philly Cheese steak sandwich. It was good, but not great. I was really looking forward to finally having a Philly Cheese Steak and it was a little bland. My sister had a grilled ham and cheese. She was also happy to have the GF bread. But it wasn't toasted fir anylengthof time. I should have told the cook that both of our meals would have tasted better if they were grilled longer to actually toast them. Neither of us had a reaction.

We loved Metro before my 13 year olds Celiac diagnosis. We tried it once, maybe 6 months ago and she ordered a Philly cheese steak and LOVED it. Then went again recently, made clear she has Celiac and verified the philly cheese steak could be made GF. She ate it, loved it and then spent the whole night in the bathroom ill. Love them as a restaurant but leery of safety for Celiac.

This is smaller than other Metro Diners I’ve seen. Very busy but the staff seemed very calm which made for a nice atmosphere. Decent separate gf menu. I specifically went due to reviews that mentioned how good the gluten free toast was. And it’s true!! They use UDIs white bread which surprised me. Server was great. The bacon was cold if that matters. Home fries were delicious. Server told us there is a separate area of the grill that they use to cook gf foods. Didn’t ask if they use separate utensils

Have been to Metro Diner in Middletown several times. They have a gluten-friendly menu which is substantial. I recommend you clearly explain to the server about Celiac and question how some menu items are prepared to avoid cross contamination. I have followed this process each time and have not had an issue. Furthermore, the meals I’ve had have been delicious and I appreciated the menu selection.
