I took a previous reviewer’s advice and ordered the GF burger without BBQ sauce, but a mgr delivered it with the sauce nonetheless. My daughter realized the error before I took a bite, and they were very apologetic, but it took another 30 minutes to get another burger so I took it to go. I did not get sick and this is best place in Tanger area to eat as options are limited, but be careful if you eat here to doublecheck your meal.
Wait staff seemed to be knowledgeable about gluten free options, and they were marked on the menu. My burger was brought out on a regular bun, luckily I was suspicious that it looked just like the normal one my husband got. When I waved our server over she knew right away it was wrong and had it switched (and the burger re-dressed). The food was good. No dedicated fryer.
Food was dried up-reheated and unappealing. In terms of gluten no real knowledge which was disappointing. Overrated and over priced
Great Burgers with Great Thinner than normal GF buns. No dedicated fryer. I usually get mashed potatoes or broccoli I haven’t tried and other menu items.
We stop here each trip! I get a salad and I have no reactions. Food is yummy and atmosphere is fun with all the car stuff.
No dedicated feyer is a bummer...Good food...most importantly, I did not get "glutenned"!
I had lots of confidence eating here, unfortunately though, I ended up sick. The staff was amazing and even had a manager bring my food out explaining their protocol, so I walked away thinking I was going to be great. But I had diarrhea within 2hrs of eating it and all next day, usually a sign of cross contact for me (throwing up if it was a full contains). I had a Moscow mule, roaster burger on lettuce (no bun), with a side of mashed potatoes instead of fries because it’s a shared fryer. Really sad I felt this way after because the food was amazing! There were lots of good reviews, so hopefully my experience was just a one-off. Just proceed with caution in case.
Sensitive celiac, came here based on reviews here. Experience was awesome. Menu clearly marked. Wait staff said they take allergies seriously and take precautions in kitchen. Got the Cobb salad with chicken. My plate came out first, brought by manager who also shared how it was prepared. Felt extremely safe eating here! Fun atmosphere with lots of Ford memorabilia. Gluten eating family enjoyed it also!!
We had 4 with gluten and dairy allergies who got gf buns, mashed potatoes, the strawberry dressing was wonderful on my salad. Very happy with our service and experience.
I’ll start by saying I love eating at the Dearborn location and have never had an issue. But we ate at the novi location about a month ago, and my typical salad with no dressing and grilled shrimp tasted different. I suspect they use a different spice on the shrimp than Dearborn, because without a doubt I was gluttened from eating there. Staff also didn’t seem very knowledgeable about allergies. As a celiac I would not recommend this location.
Ford’s Garage is one of my favorite dining options. I’ve never been given a GF menu, but the staff and chef are very knowledgeable and cautious. I get the grilled shrimp and Gorgonzola salad - which is so good! It has strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, dried cherries, and nice lettuce. I always state up front that I have celiac and my meal comes out double plated so it’s a further acknowledgement that it’s a known allergy and safe. They also deliver my meal separate from the others. Never had an issue eating at this location!
We sat at the bar and got a very friendly and knowledgeable about GF bar tender which was encouraging and didn’t require pulling over the manager. However I did call the manager that afternoon so they were expecting us. They have a decent GF menu - mostly burgers ( turkey, beef, chicken) and sides - but they make a great burger and the GF bun was fine. I always have ordered the turkey burger with Swiss and mushrooms. Love it! We asked for a new ketchup bottle and it was immediately delivered without question. Since we both ordered GF we didn’t have to worry about the servers putting a non-GF plate next to ours when carrying over to our seats but I was watching. We very much enjoyed our meal and are going back again soon.
Had brisket sandwich on GF bun. No reaction and I’m a very sensitive celiac. Would eat here again.
Husband got a burger and I got the Cobb salad. Burger was good quality half lb burger. Salad had excellent fresh made dressings. Burger bun was microwaved to thaw it so it was chewy. Good was marked and double plated. Probably wouldn’t go back except atmosphere is pretty cool and it’s very close to Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford museum. Must to go to those!
Waiter sent the manager over who personally cooked my meal separately. Amazing service. Delicious meal. Very knowledgeable!
Decided to eat here because of the good reviews here in FMGF. I ordered the Bison Burger on GF roll. Server delivered what appeared to be a standard roll. I inquired about the roll and they remade my burger and this time it was delivered by a manager like others had mentioned. Fries are cooked in shared fries according to the server. I enjoyed the meal and would definitely like to return.
Saw the reviews and had high hopes that there would be a positive dining experience. Showed my allergy card and then I asked the waitress if I could get a grilled chicken breast, lettuce and avocado on a gluten free bun. She said not a problem. Also ordered a side salad with no cheese (I am allergic to dairy) and she took her time to put in the order. Unfortunately, a runner brought the food out and had my meal right next to two other meals, both with gluten buns and melted cheese where my meal was touching theirs. I could not take the chance as there was definitely cross contamination. I told the waitress and she went to order another meal. My entire family had finished eating and my food still had not come out. I asked for a to go box. This was during lunch time and there were only 3 other tables seated. If you go here to eat, make sure to ask the waitstaff to bring out allergy free meals separate from the rest of the order for safety.
Ford’s Garage has great burgers with GF buns. Not GF fries. They offer GF mashed potatoes, Broccoli, Coleslaw and Salad. The other GF entrees are a chicken dish and a salmon dish. This is a great place for burgers, but that’s about it. The manager brought out my food, which is always a plus. Would visit again, especially if I’m wanting a burger.
READ! Call, triple check, then call again! We did not actually eat here so my review is just based on experience with them not taste….. we tried to plan ahead to figure out dinner for a group of 12- 2 with celiacs…… called at 1 pm to ask if they have GF buns for cheese burgers, best time to come in for our large group, and ask if fry’s are GF…… they said 4pm is the slowest, fry’s are GF, and yes they have buns. Called again at 3pm after one of our children got sick to ask if they will do Togo orders I also double checked about buns and fry’s again…… finally called in our very large Togo order at 430 they told me it would be ready in 15 mins. We got there in about 10 mins, checked in, about 30 mins later I’m still waiting but I get a phone from them to inform me that they don’t offer GF buns anymore… I said okay fine just finish making the food without buns. But I double check for a 3rd time that the fry’s were definitely GF. The lady on the phone said no they are definitely not GF it says right on the box that they contain gluten and she apologized for the miss information. It was a s**t show!! Avoid them at all cost. Clearly no one is on the same page there considering I had called multiple times this should have never happened.
They have gluten free buns that are wonderful, but they did kindly inform me when I ordered that their fries were cross contaminated. While cross contamination does not bother me, I put it in here so others can know.
Items clearly marked on their menu. When I ordered a gf bun for my burger, the waiter confirmed it was an allergy. A few minutes later, a manager stopped by the table to let me know the kitchen was aware and taking all necessary precautions. Food was delivered to table separately from the remaining order "to keep everyone safe, happy and healthy". Could not have been handled better and food was fantastic.
Great burgers with a gluten free bun
Fabulous! Our server was gluten intolerant. I had the blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. I’ve previously had lettuce wrap burgers (they do offer gf buns) and also their shrimp and blue cheese salad with strawberries. Lots of safe delicious choices.
Server asked if it was allergy, so they know seriousness. (I am DX Celiac). I had a burger with green beans for a side. Good burger, brought separately and marked.
Great restaurant and I loved the atmosphere! Waiter was very knowledgeable about food allergies. GF items are marked on the menu and he said some items can be modified to be GF. My food came out separately and it was delicious! I had the Chicken Cobb Salad with Italian Dressing with lots of yummy bacon and cheese. Other people in my party had burgers and fries and they said their food was good, too!
I called for a takeout order and explained I have celiac which means I have a gluten allergy. I reviewed the allergy menu online and saw there was no gluten in most burgers and the fries. I didnt realize there was a “wheat” section of with a “Y” for yes in it if it had wheat. But then there was a “gluten-free section” with a “Y” if it was gluten free. I had a cheese burger with the gluten free bun and it was great. I started to eat one fry and then thought to double check the allergen menu and it didnt say “Y” for wheat but didnt say “Y” for gluten free. I had one bit then didnt eat anymore. The guy told my dad who picked up the food that he put the fries in a separate container to not touch the gluten free burger, but he let me order it as a side with my burger???? Frustrating restaurants and people dont seem to have common sense. I would eat there and ONLY eat the burger with a gluten free bun
Best burgers in town!
Got an allergen menu from the hostess which was very extensive. I chose a cheeseburger which was good with GF bun, it was dry but ok. I also got mashed potatoes as a side & they were good also! Nice to be given choices!
Very careful separation of celiac food. They even have dedicated servers to being the celiac food out and it has dedicated labels pinned to it.
We had a great experience. My daughter said I needed to give them 5 out of 5 stars for having the best burger. Also, they took extra care that her food came out safe! Its very apparent the staff is trained in how serious Celiac can be!
Great find! Service and food were excellent. Burger with gluten-free bun, coleslaw and white claw were a perfect combination. Will definitely eat here again. Easy, laid-back atmosphere.
I'm not sure how the cross contamination is but the burgers were just ok. They have so much on them its almost too much for a regular bun. There are not many options but everything is marked. Gluten free options are basically burgers, vegetables, and grilled meat.
We were told that the separate fryer for the fries can be cross-contaminated. We were instructed to order the vegetables that are listed as gluten-free as those are not cross contaminated. The only gluten free bread is the bun. Our items were not marked with a gluten-free tag/toothpick. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of offerings for kids. I was hoping for a grilled cheese and fries, but the bun was too thick for the grilled cheese and we could not get fries.
Staff was knowledgeable and helpful in navigating which menu items were safe. My burger came flagged and the GF bun was great. Would definitely eat here again!

Fries have a seasoning on them so are NOT listed as gluten free, and the manager recommended avoiding the fries. They do have a dedicated frier so it was a bit confusing to hear no to the fries. They do have a few options here though such as no bun, gluten free bun, and lettuce wraps ish in place of a bun...
The menu has little diamonds for items that can be made gluten-free with some alteration(s), and the have gluten free buns. The server can make an allergy notation on the ticket, and the kitchen will clean an area to cook the meal. The bun is toasted on this same cleaned part of the grill as the burger.
But it requires asking all the picky questions to be sure you are safe. First, be sure to have every component checked to see which parts need to be altered. I got a burger with a gluten free bun, and asked the server to check the bbq sauce ingredients. Good thing, because it has flour. The fries have a dedicated fryer but have a flour coating. My salad dressing had some debris (onion piece, something else), and my server went and got me a clean cup of dressing from the back.
The manager was nice and the server was fantastic. It's possible to eat safely here, but it requires a lot of attention to detail and self-advocacy. A year into this Celiac adventure, I felt confident to figure it out, but it would've overwhelmed me early on.
Great food, knowledgeable staff and safe kitchen. My food was brought out alone before anybody else’s to help make sure there was no cross contamination.
I always loved Ford’s Garage before my diagnosis, but this was the first time I’ve been there since. I didn’t ask for the gluten free menu as I had already previewed GF items on the website. However, the main menu does indicate a GF menu is available. I let our server know I have a “Gluten Allergy” as I verified the ChickenCobb Salad Is Gluten Free. She said she would flag my order so that the kitchen would know to be extra cautious and double check all ingredients. My food was brought out by itself. I was a bit confused, but the person who delivered it said, “we take your allergy very seriously. Making sure your food is safe is top priority for us. It has to be reviewed by a manager before being sent and has to be served separate from the rest of the order by a manager.” Wow! Color me impressed!! I’ll definitely be back!! Edited to add: on subsequent visits I was told that when an order is flagged for an allergy, staff preparing the meal are required to change gloves and aprons and prepare the food in a separate area to avoid cross contamination. Allergy meals are always double plated and always delivered by a manager. Love this place!
Waitress made sure the kitchen used only gluten free bun with my burger order.
