Gluten-Free at Abbott's Frozen Custard

Beware of the chocolate custard, which contains gluten because it is made with malt (barley). I did not think the world would be so cruel as to gluten chocolate ice cream so I did not ask on my first trip there. Reminder to self: always ask about my food allergies. That said, this custard is excellent, but be sure to ask for the listing of allergens before your order and know the cross contamination risks.

I’m not really sure how to rate this with stars because it seems like one of those places where it depends what server you get. I went in with high hopes today but was told, “I think all of the flavors contain gluten.” I’m not sure if this person just didn’t know because she also responded initially to my question about gluten by saying something about nuts (it was very difficult to hear her); I had to clarify that I do not have a nut allergy. Still giving it three stars because I don’t want to discourage someone else from trying if maybe they’ll have a better experience with someone else. I didn’t buy anything.

Went towards closing time and the server was using the same scoop for all different flavors. Also told me that unless the prepackaged pints were labeled GF, they were not GF due to “how it’s made that day”

Not all of the flavors were gluten free but the staff were very helpful. If they didn’t know they looked it up in a manual. They had toppings in the back that they used to avoid cross contamination. And the custard was great.

Not lots of flavors but vanilla, vanilla almond in a dish, milkshake, sundaes have been safe for our family. Unfortunately chocolate has malt.

Ask the employees for clarification, they have a little sheet for gluten allergies. Obviously cookie/cookie dough topping, brownie topping, waffle cones, etc. aren’t gluten free. Flavors that include gluten include any chocolate or version of chocolate, and cake batter. Celiac and gluten intolerant friendly, clarifying an allergy always helps insure this!

Love the frozen custard. Frozen banana is also good. Many toppings are not gluten free but have plenty of choices that are. One of my favorite custard spots

Only one flavor is gluten free - Strawberry. It’s dairy free too, made with almond milk. Had a milkshake.

Hmmnnm I have going there for forever since I lived around the corner and Abbots all locations never been gf and very sloppy cross combinations

This place is great! A bunch of the frozen custard flavors are GF, you just need to ask them. They use the same scoop for each flavor so no worries of cross contamination there. I am not sure their practices for preparing ice cream, but it seems pretty safe!

Only could have vanilla. But they have a separate scoop per flavor so you will be safe from CC and they'll change gloves. Not a lot of options but i was happy to eat ice cream on the beach!

This particular location does not label the menu, but the workers know which flavors are safe. Vanilla is always safe and chocolate never is. Their flavors rotate daily. They scoop the custard but each flavor has it's own scooper so there isn't cross contamination. I liked my vanilla and did not get sick. No cones or toppings

Limited menu options really hampered our rating, as none of the chocolate flavors were gluten free and it was harder to navigate choices. The turtles were gluten free and delicious, and the vanilla custard was really good as well! Milkshakes were a miss, but all in all, it was a Nice treat after the beach.

Always delicious and has several flavors of custard available that are gluten free. Be sure to ask at the counter, because we found they had more gluten free flavors than the sign indicated.
