The waitress seemed knowledgeable and that she knew what celiac was and about cross contamination. Chicken was safe without the sauce. They do not have a dedicated fryer at this location so I couldn’t get the fries. I got the chicken and baked potato and was happy about it !

Ordered the family festive dinner with fries, green salad and beans. Everything was carefully packed so gluten containing buns were kept separate.

Not Celiac friendly.
Asked about gluten free options and was told they said they can’t guarantee anything. At all. They also mentioned that they use the same oil for practically everything. Employees did not seem very knowledgeable on cross contamination and if they had anything gluten free in the first place.

Excellent experience. chicken and chalet sauce are gluten free. They cooked my fries in their blanche fryer, very accommodating. Just ask all the usual questions.

I didn't starve but this definitely is not someplace to seek out if you're gluten free. I had a baked potato and microwave steamed vegetables with butter and sour cream. They have a smaller than usual menu right now because of Covid so this was all that was celiac-safe.

This location doesn't understand cross contamination. They don't think it is necessary to change their gloves. The buns are stored above the chicken. When I tried to speak to the manager, he shrugged his shoulders. I got sick at this location and will not be returning.

I have eaten here many times and have never had any problems. I order the roasted chicken, mashed potatoes & dipping sauce. Staff change their gloves and waitress brings my food out separately. I recommend you check what's gluten free before dining. They don't have a dedicated fryer at this location.

Supervisor always delivers my meal, staff in knowledgeable. Go at least once a month in the last 12 years, never been sick ! 😋 Only thing I would change is the Gluten free gravy I don't care for it, got ginger in it. Not good for a poutine. Wish their original gravy was gluten free.

**NOTE: DEDICATED FRYER ONLY USED UPON REQUEST.** We regularly order from this Swiss Chalet and have never had any issues. A dedicated fryer is available for french fries, but only upon request. We call ahead and they always accommodate, which is greatly appreciated. Quarter chicken with fries is my go to! No roll, of course.

I have read a few comments sharing that Swiss Chalet Ribs are Gluten Free... Please note *** RIBS ARE NOT Gluten Free. There is a RUB applied to the Ribs that has WHEAT in it. (The BBQ Sauce is also not confirmed GF).
According to Managers I've spoken to, Chicken Dinners can be made GF provided you ORDER IT as such, make sure to ask that NO BUN IS PUT INSIDE the dinner container. Chalet Sauce is fine, it's Gluten Free according to Management, and if you order FRIES, YOU MUST SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR THEM TO BE COOKED IN A SEPARATE FRYER.
Hope this helps! :)

Waitress informed us that they have never had a dedicated frier for their fries, and as such they are not Gluten-Free.
So sad to learn this location no longer has a dedicated fryer for their fries. With more and more people going GF, I was surprised that they had one but have now removed it.

Dedicated fryer for the fries! :)
They have a gluten free fryer and are knowledgeable about what has gluten in it. The chalet sauce is gluten free, but the gravy is not.
Any chicken dinner can be made gf, just ask for no bun and the gf fryer if you want fries. Always a good, delicious, affordable option.
They always warn you the gf fryer may take longer to heat up, but we have always gotten our food in 10 minutes or less.

I was hopeful this restaurant was a safe place to eat from the last review but unfortunately I was wrong. Our server at first had no idea if they had anything gluten free. She nicely asked the kitchen who was not too sure themselves. From the Swiss chalet website I knew that the chicken and chalet sauce, ribs and garden salad and house dressing were gluten free and the fries were cooked in a separate fryer. She was not sure about any of that when I asked but she did come back from the kitchen saying that they had unfortunately fried other gluten items in the same fryer so I had to stay away from the fries. I ate the chicken, ribs, chalet sauce and salad. Unfortunately I can now say that I became extremely ill and am now dealing with horrible glutening.

Had a great experience at this Swiss Chalet location. The owner Arvin was so knowledgeable- he gets it ! Explained how they have a dedicated fryer just for French Fries and they have a process in place for other food Eg new gloves, new cutting boards etc for celiac and allergies. Took good care of us.
Yes
Very nice and helpful, does NOT have a dedicated fryer as others have reported. They pre-fry the French fries in a contaminated fryer in the morning when we asked if baking the fries was an option. Chicken and such was gf and great as always.
Our experience at Swiss Chalet in Truro went so well, we chose to eat there two nights in a row with our celiac son while attending a hockey tournament in Truro. Both evenings the servers were very knowledgeable while helping him navigate the menu. He was able to eat chicken one evening and ribs the second. Super friendly staff made for a very enjoyable meal.
Yes
The rotisserie chicken, ribs, house salad and house dressing are gluten free. Fries are done in a dedicated fryer and the chalet sauce is gf too. **Make sure to let them know not to put a bun on your plate!
Yes
Very surprised that I did not get sick eating at basically a glorified fast food restaurant. Have ordered take-out and dine-in many times and have never had a reaction. I know. I'm as surprised as you are. The staff seem capable and confident about making your meal gluten free (obviously with a restricted menu) when you ask. Never had a problem here.
Yes
We were excited to find out they have a dedicated fryer here!
Yes
Great experience. As soon as I sat down and let them know I was Celiac, they brought me the allergy guide and went through it with me. Lots of options - I had a half chicken, half rib dinner with fries. They have a dedicated fryer at this location and take precautions to avoid cross contamination.
Yes
The man who seated us gave me an allergen list to supplement the regular menu and explained there were a lot of gf options. The server was very helpful and said they prepare the orders separately and that she'd mark my order with an allergy notice when putting it in. I was super happy that the Chalet Sauce was gf! I really didn't expect there to be so much choice here and was pleasantly surprised with the awareness of the staff and the many items I could choose from.
Very knowledgeable staff and it nice to know the chalet sauce is gluten free!
Yes
Safe place to eat but a bit tough to determine what is safe. Staff isn't as knowledgable as I would like but they were understanding and did their best. They have a separate sheet which has allergens listed for every item o the menu. Tough to read and have to use both the menu and the sheet to determine what is safe. I have celiac and did not get sick. I had chicken, ribs and fries. All dressings and sauces are safe.
Ask and they'll make you the best fresh cut gluten free fries. Their chicken and chalet sauce, mash potatoes and bake potatoes are always gluten free. Most of their salad dressings and dipping sauces as well.
Yes
My daughter loves the rotisserie chicken and mashed potato. She is very sensitive and has never had any issues.
Yes
Depends on your waitress. The first time I ordered a baked potato it came out uncut with individual butter and sour cream, the next time it came cut and already dressed with butter and sour cream and I definitely had some cross contamination issues
Yes
Separate GF menu. Chicken and ribs GF. Separate frier for french fries. Traditional sauce is GF but mild is not. Waiters very knowledgeable. Meal came out with a mini Canadian flag on a toothpick to signify GF.
Yes
Nothing Gluten free so I was told. So don't bother wasting your time.
No
Ribs and chicken are GF. If you mention to the server that you have celiac disease they will deep fry your fries in a dedicated fryer.
Yes
Very few choices. Server said that they don't know what's in the sauces, as they are not made there and they 'buy' them elsewhere. Was given my chicken salad with a dressing that she " thinks is gluten free because it's raspberry- and that's a fruit". Do not recommend eating here if you are a Celiac!
No
A few options of chicken, ribs and wings. Leave off the rolls and croutons on salad. Waitress seemed knowledgeable.
Yes
Chicken and fry's gluten free and dipping sauce !
Very gluten friendly, lots of menu options, but not 100% gluten free for those who are severe.
Great chicken, ribs, and fries.
Yes
I have ate there many times and never had a problem. good food and very clean.
Yes
Chicken and ribs are gluten free and they have a dedicated fryer for fries. Staff very aware of gluten free and cross contamination.
Yes
Rotisserie Chicken with the skin removed is a good gluten free choice. Ask them to use clean gloves, no bun, no sauce, and salad or steamed vegetables.
Food was good and staff was friendly, but not very knowledgeable about GF. They do have an allergy guide that can help with food choices.
They have a list of common allergens. Fries contaminated Quarter chicken is ok as well as bbq ribs and somes side dishes
