I wouldn't suggest eating here if you are celiac. They don't have a dedicated fryer so I couldn't eat much. I had a burger with a salad and got very, very ill. It could've been cross contamination so I wouldn't go back!

Staff was very knowledgable about cross-contamination. The server, manager, and kitchen staff were aware of what was safe for Celiac folks. We were told by the manager that very little on the menu would be okay to eat. Basically, the Cowboy salad or Caesar salad without croutons. Both the grill and single fryer were deemed unsafe by staff. Salads are prepared in a separate area. The server did say that some items could be baked instead of fried like the french fries or yam fries, but the manager emphasized that the kitchen was an "open" one and they could not guarantee no cross-contamination of anything other than the salads. This place would be great for those sensitive to gluten, but not Celiac in my opinion.

I have been to Browns many times but this was my first coming for Brunch with my family, and the majority of us are celiac. Servers were very knowledgeable about cross contamination and let us know that fryers “may contain” so we were aware. None of us were impacted and overall another great experience.

They have a bunch of items marked "gluten friendly" on the menu but most are fried in a shared fryer. I am silent celiac as far as I know (at least as of now being GF 5 months) so I can't say whether or not the burger and salad I had was 100% safe. But I was super disappointed that I couldn't order what I wanted and that their menu is deceptively labeled. Also for the price it was okay but definitely not worth it.

We went expecting an incredible experience based on other reviews and some many gluten friendly items on the menu. We went in expecting to get the chicken sandwich and fries which we were going to turn into a chicken finger and fries dish as that is my 10 year olds favourite, he also has autism and Down’s syndrome so the was going to be a big win after being stuck home on our strict gluten free diet as we were learning about possible options for going out. Needless to say nothing was gluten free, they say that there is possible contamination as usual but a we come to find out that there is no structure for any gluten free prep, the fries are pre fried in the same fryer as everting else and there is no separate fryer for any other food. Luckily we were able to get a steak and Cesar salad for him but was not at all what we were expecting to order also no where near the cost of the sandwich we were going to get. This place should not have their gluten friendly logo on anything that comes out of that kitchen

One of my go to places for celiac safe food! The staff and owners are super knowledgeable about cross contamination and I always feel accommodated. I believe a variety of items on their menu can be made gluten free. My favourite item to order is their spicy crispy chicken sandwich. To die for! They also have a dedicated fryer at this location. Highly recommend!

The staff are very conscious and careful. They will double check everything and bring your order out separately. I've never gotten sick here and the food is definitely worth the little bit of extra wait.

Server was very diligent in checking labels of products in the kitchen (icecream, bellini mix) and let me know if it said that it was processed in the same facility as gluten. They were very knowledgeable about dietary requirements and I felt well looked after and safe. Happy to say, I did not get glutened!!!! Highly recommend 👌

I have to admit they tried and we’re going to bake the salt & pepper ribs, but in the end, it appears they went through the deep fryer as the cook likely didn’t care. Either that or the tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole, but I had a reaction later that last until noon the next day. Menu Items are all noted to be just gluten friendly, not gluten free. Likely not the best Choice for a celiac.

The menu has gluten friendly items marked and my waitress was very helpful. However when I asked about the gf nachos the waitress told me the tortillas are made in a shared fryer (so not really gf). She went through the menu with me and there were several things they could adapt to be gluten free (removing ingredients but of course never lowering the price - pet peeve of mine!!) I ended up ordering the Caesar salad with blackened chicken. She cautioned me that it was a shared kitchen and she couldn’t promise no cross contamination. Sigh. I wasn’t getting a great vibe but decided to chance it. Luckily I didn’t have any reaction. I doubt I will ever eat there again.

I felt a bit anxious after eating here based on general vibes but I didn't have a reaction. I had the Hollywood Burger with a gf bun and salad, which I've had at another location without problems. As a celiac, the menu at Brown’s Social House is very misleading. ALL of their starters/snack plates are deep fried in a shared frier, but are labelled as “gluten friendly”. We did take out. Since the notes for what could be gluten free was slightly different on the online menu and the online ordering, we walked down to order takeout in person. The hostess was fantastic. She answered my 11 year olds questions about the gluten free options, talking directly to her, she wanted to know if the GF buns for the burgers were good ones! We ordered one burger meal for a celiac and the cod for someone without but asked to confirm GF so she could share if she wanted. The hostess checked everything with the kitchen, came back to confirm things with us, told us the fryer for the fries was used for non-GF items, checked about packing our food to confirm things would be ok. The burger was fantastic, my 11 year old rarely eats burgers in buns as she finds most GF burger buns just aren’t worth eating and prefers without, however, I got nothing but raving reviews on the burger bun! Cod was potato crusted so she cousin try as well. If we are back in Ottawa we would definitely go again.

Had an amazing experience at this location! The server was very knowledgeable and asked if cross contamination would be an issue or if gluten free was a preference for me. She was clear they would be careful without me even asking. When my cod bowl arrived, it was delivered by the manager and it came out on its own with assurances all was safe. NOT CELIAC SAFE AT ALL! At first the staff seemed to know what was safe for celiacs but then the gf options kept changing as servers talked to the kitchen (their gf options on menu were wrong). Their “protocol” for fries was to bake in oven - but they forgot these were parboiled in shared fried. Got my daughter “safe” gf burger and baked yam fries after multiple assurance. She still got glutened very badly.

Waitress had a flip book of menu allergens/sensitivities. Being gluten and dairy intolerant, it was really helpful. They had items marked marked gluten friendly and vegetarian.

No separate fryer. Many of the “gf” options had the salsa chips which apparently are fried in their fryer. Somewhat disappointing choices for a GF menu.
