I really like the food here and initially thought it was safe — most items are naturally gluten free, but after a couple times feeling mildly glutened after a dozen visits, it’s hard to not feel a bit paranoid here. It seems they don’t take precautions for cross contamination, which can be an issue for people very sensitive like myself
I’ve eaten here a few times and I haven’t gotten sick. The food is delicious, and the back of the normal menu marks what is gluten free. A few of the meats contain gluten so I just get the chicken which is good and then everything else except like the pita are good to go. It’s like a chipotle layout.
I enjoyed this place. The lady changed her gloves and walked me down the line since it was my first time ordering. You fill your bowl with greens/or grains, then proteins then toppings and sauces. Lots of gf choices, see their allergen menu, just don’t get any pita on the side. Really good, healthy and fresh
This place is celiac friendly but only if you ask them to get the sauce (tatziki, etc) from the fridge with a separate scooper. Everything specifies if it is Gf or not, but the sauces they serve from are cross contaminated with pita. Make sure to specifically ask them to get a new sauce from the fridge and try not to go during busy times- they get grumpy with the requests.
Everything is GF besides the pita bread!! So many options & yummy sauces!! My favorite lunch spot.
I love this chain, but be sure to ask them to change gloves if you are celiac and be careful of the feta because sometimes they let pita chips fall into it. If you get salad or greens and grains, especially ask them to change gloves. They offer pita on the side and grab it before you can say no. They grab the greens for salads and “greens and grains” with just a gloved hand and the glove is pretty much certainly cross contaminated with the “pita on the side.”
I’m new to gluten free but the staff here made it easy. He changed his gloves when I mentioned gluten free and was able to answer all of my questions confidently. Almost their entire menu is GF and they have a nice chart right on the back of the menu to show GF and other nutritional info. Yummy, healthy, and GF!
The only gluten items are pitas, falafel, and meatballs. Was handed a gf menu when I mentioned celiac. Server changed gloves, walked down the entire line instead of handing off to the next server, and immediately put a lid on it even though we were eating in. Lots of options. We’ll eat here again.
CAVA is great! The spot provides a menu detailing certain allergens present in the many options. My server changed her gloves to accommodate me and stayed with my bowl for the entire order to prevent cross-contamination. The large bowl was too much to eat in one serving, so I would say the expense was worth it.
NO NO NO. The food looks absolutely delicious. We saw people sitting on the patio while we were out shopping, and I had heard the one in Charlotte was fabulous for Celiac folks. We went into order, my daughter told the cashier that she had Celiac, well I will just say that no one behind the counter was really sure what that was. They thought it might have something to do with gluten, so they all began searching for the gluten-free menu, found it, and then started questioning each other about it. That’s when we told them thank you but we’re going to pass. It was obvious that they had not been trained by management on how to prepare or handle food for those with Celiac.
I have celiac. I watched a server accidentally put the wrong meat on a plain pita. He scraped the meat off of the pita back into the bin. I watched horrified, my meal already half eaten. Not two minutes later I watched another server do the same thing. Pray for me this evening. I will never return.
Accommodating and no issues but but extremely overpriced. Don’t bring anybody in party that’s not going to order a full entrée (including kids), or you will be charged. Same goes with the reservations. If somebody in your party doesn’t show up, they charge you.
Awesome experience. When I told the first person about gluten, he immediately stepped back from the line and started to wash his hands and change gloves. When I asked about protocols (like other people down the line), he said “I’ll be with you through to the end.” He just informed everyone he was handling my food and was super great about everything. Interesting Mediterranean food as well! Plenty of GF options. I could go there many times and get something that tastes vastly different on each trip (unlike some other fast casual places like Chipotle). I ordered a bowl with chicken as the protein. Looking foreword to my next trip. Good choice!
Excellent, make sure server changes gloves and gets lettuce from new bin. The servers who picks the greens also handle pita bread, so lettuce is contaminated. I was at Midlothian location which is not listed yet.
I did walk in once to find someone sticking a thermometer into every dish without washing in-between dishes and learned this is normal. When I contacted corporate they told me to ask a manager to pull my food fresh from the back and that would keep me safe. When I go in they are always very patient, understanding and change gloves in front of me without asking.
The server changed her gloves and followed me down the line making sure to not come in contact with any gluten. She even changed the bowl she was using that she touched prior to the glove change. Felt very safe and comfortable there. And I never got sick.
Very tasty. Server changed gloves, but it did occur to me after that I should probably have avoided the greens, since they're bins that the servers grab with gloved hands that could introduce cross-contamination. Anyway, it was very tasty and felt maybe just very slightly funny after so hard to say if there was something in the greens or if it was something unrelated.
Middle eastern bowls with greens or rice. Several meats are GF, most toppings are GF. One dressing is DF.
Make your own bowl/salad (chipotle style) with Mediterranean twist! Huge portions and many options including different kinds of hummus, toppings, meat/chicken/veggies! Almost all are labeled GF on the menu! there is minimal risk for CC (only an option to get pita bread at the very end)
The food was great with no complaints on flavor and freshness. Most of the items offered are gluten free. My only complaint is below. Walking into Cava upon looking at the menu online and seeing that there was GF options I assumed the items would be marked. Unfortunately, that was not the case and I had to pull up the list online. If the staff there were told what items were gluten free or they marked the menu it would really help to save time since it can get busy in Cava.
The staff in this restaurant restored my faith in humanity today. The food was excellent, healthy, fast and tasty, but the customer service was above and beyond. They’re always happy to change gloves, open fresh containers of ingredients and are careful about contamination.
this chain does list all ingredients and will change gloves for you. big BUT: they have no processes to ensure no cross contamination and apparently no staff knowledge of cross contamination of allergens. with a little patience you will catch them spreading dips on a wheat pita then putting the same utensil back in the dip. or handling wheat pitas, then using the same gloves in bonds of greens to serve a salad bowl.
This place tries very hard to make sure you don't have cross contamination. They will change their gloves for you and even pull from the unused lettuce bin without complaint. The guy who helped me today even washed his hands before changing gloves, and they were busy!
They do an excellent job listing all allergens. They are accommodating with changing gloves. Food is good. But both times I have gone I have ended up ill. This time much worse. From what I have read the cross contamination may occur on the grills, maybe utensils? Not sure and there is always new people working so it's hard to investigate what is the issue. But if you are celiac/ sensitive be mindful and cautious. Delicious yes, but I'm struggling now.
First time there was delicious! Follows the Chipotle concept with a Mediterranean theme, and almost all the the ingredients are gluten free, as are the preparations. Different kinds of bowls and salads, most of the proteins are GF. Big flavors such as Siracha tahini and the vegetarian with us loved his rice and Lentil bowl. Also amazing drinks. Loved it!
