Visited Dover 99 last week. Gluten free menu has not changed much in 20 years. First time at Dover. The service was ok. Waitress was knowledgeable about gluten free items. I am very fussy about who can deliver food and this was done without incident. Travelling with an Nut allergy person as well whos dinner was delivered without issues as well
I have a gluten and dairy allergy and they had almost nothing for me! I got the balsamic chicken with broccoli and a side salad. When I got the salad it had croutons on it and the broccoli had butter! and my boyfriend steak was under cooked!
The food (salad and steak tips with mashed potatoes) did not make me sick. Server did not know anything about salad dressings nor did she check in the kitchen, just offered oil and vinegar. I’m sure she could have checked the restaurant supply jugs if dressings. This was my first visit to a 99. Not impressed honestly… the place was filthy dirty!
Went there with my family. My sister in law and I are gluten free. She had the balsamic chicken and I had the bacon cheeseburger with mashed potatoes. The fries are not gluten safe. The waiter was very helpful and we were able to see the items marked for gluten sensitivity on the menu
My husband, who is a very sensitive Celiac person, consistently has the gluten free All Star burger without issue. He usually gets mashed potatoes and a vegetable with it. The bun looks like Udi’s, and he says it’s good. He has never gotten sick with this meal. Not sure if other options would be as safe given his sensitivity to cross contamination.
No dedicated fryer. No 100% GF options. A few “gluten sensitive” marked items, but the manager said he could not check the ingredients or contents. He also asked how “serious” my celiac disease really is, because he can’t guarantee I would be safe. All I asked for was a garden salad with grilled chicken (both marked ok for “gluten sensitive”). We left without ordering.
I ordered the all star burger and was given the wrong bun. The receipt even said “gluten allergy”. I was extremely sick for the night. Will never go back!
My wife and I have stopped here twice in the past two years on the way to concerts at Tanglewood. In both cases, she ordered salmon from the gluten-sensitive menu. The manager delivered the food to us personally with a small “allergy” flag. All of the food, gluten-sensitive or not, has been a marked improvement over many of the 99’s we’ve visited in the eastern part of the state. We’ll most definitely return here on our next trip!
They offer gluten-free rolls. The rest of the gluten-free items are labeled for “gluten-sensitive” only. They do not have a dedicated fryer. I ordered a lobster roll on a GF bun, and it was delicious! I am always thankful for GF options.
I called ahead to verify their protocol for those with Celiac. They said food is prepared in a separate area of kitchen and brought out to the table separately. They stuck to their word and it was a great experience. My daughter had a hamburger with broccoli. It was the best GF bun we have ever tried. If you go to the nutrition section of their website, you can input your allergy and it will provide you with the foods that are safe.
This used to be one of our favorite spots close to home, but ever since they started making people with allergies sign legal paperwork in order to order any food years ago, we have not been back. This is awkward and terrible, and they are losing a lot of business with this bizarre move.
Minimal options, and wat they do offer is the usual burger, steak, salmon, or salad. Nothing exciting. Was told I couldn't get the steak tips due to their seasoning having gluten, despite the menu indicating it should be safe. Only says gluten sensitive, not gluten free options.
Came here with my two Celiac kiddos. The manager was super knowledgeable and made sure both had safe meals they would enjoy. No GF fries but enough sides to keep every one happy. The waitress put on fresh gloves before she delivered the food to the table, and there were allergy sticks in both meals. Food is what you would expect from a 99. Overall, this worked for a quick, safe option for us close off the highway!
