I was visiting Boston for the day earlier in the week when I went here for lunch. I explained to the server that I had a severe gluten and dairy allergy. They assured me that getting a turkey burger on a gluten free roll with steamed broccoli was safe for me. I asked about cross contamination and they assured me there was a separate grill and it was totally safe for me to eat. Unfortunately, within 30 minutes of eating only half of my meal I was running to the bathroom. It took me 3 days to recover from this poor meal. I was extremely disappointed because the reviews were great and the server seemed knowledgeable. I would not recommend going here if you are very sensitive.
Actually obsessed with this place! So many options. Got a whole spread and shared and it consisted of a gf pizza, buffalo cauliflower, chicken tenders and tater tots. They had allergy labels and the manager came and spoke to me. Definitely going back soon
Staff including manager was very knowledgeable. GF food brought out separately and so so many choices. My daughter was so happy to try fried pickles, loaded tator tots (so good!), nachos and fish and chips. She ate so much we had to go take a nap!!! No issues other than overeating. I wish there were more restaurants like this one for Celiacs.
Knowledgeable staff. Dedicated fryer. If menu says GF it means it can made gluten free. It’s not automatically GF. I had fish and chips with pickle sauce. Tartar sauce isn’t gluten free. Pickle sauce is and it’s almost like tartar sauce. General Tso chicken was amazing. highly recommend !!!!!
Really like this place. Went twice during our visit. Clearly marked menu, knowledgeable waitstaff both times. Manager brought out our plates. Expansive menu, separate frier! The kids had a burger (great bun) and chicken tenders (great fried crust) and French fries. We also tried the fish and chips, ribs and pizza, liked them all. This place is a great find!
Best gluten free chicken tenders and fried pickles I’ve ever had! SO many gluten free options!! The fried chicken tenders and fries... even the tots and pickles come gluten free regardless of whether or not you are gluten free! Really limits the chance of cross contamination. I love this place.
This is our second time here and they definitely surpassed our expectations! The manager on duty, Sal, went above and beyond to take care of our needs and concerns. Our waitress, Kayla took the time to ask the kitchen any questions on things she wasn’t sure about. The majority of the menu is or can be made gluten free and there is limited room for cross contamination. Sal told us about their certified gluten free desserts and offered for us to try the Brownie. I’ve been GF for almost 20 years and this is by far one of the best brownies I’ve ever eaten!! It comes out in a wrapper to prevent any possibility of contamination as it is a certified GF item. They have another NSF Certified GF dessert which is a marshmallow rice crispy bar, I’ll be trying that one next time! Great food, amazing service and they do everything possible to ensure your meal is to your satisfaction. Thanks Sal!!!!
Unfortunately, this location is not up to par with other Tavern in the Square restaurants. Per their manager, their chicken/steak has a high risk for cross contamination due to being cooked on the same grill and was less than helpful when asked if a separate pan could be used. There is no dedicated fryer at this location either. Due to risk for cross contamination and unwillingness to accommodate, I would not recommend this location.
There are only a few items on the whole menu that cannot be made gluten free. The food was delicious! Gluten free clam chowder and gluten free calamari? Count me in! The staff was very knowledgeable about Celiacs and the executive chef brought out my meal. I’d highly recommend this place!
The staff is extremely knowledgeable and they are super careful, especially if you tell them you have an allergy. There are quite a few options, even some fried foods! It’s all very delicious. I just wish the Mac and cheese had a GF options!
Something got me here, and I’m not sure what. The menu is marked, I asked questions, I even skipped the gf bread...the manager brought my plate out separate...and still, gluten. It was light, but contaminated...so it doesn’t matter. I had the chowder, and the eggplant stack. My theory is that when the entire menu is marked, the establishment becomes less diligent about XC...this seems to be more of a lifestyle choice gf-avoidance place. Also, it is a chain...so maybe other locations are safer.
Been coming here for a couple years now. By far the best sports bar for celiacs. I've brought so many friends and family here (especially out of town visitors). They clear their surfaces of gluten for preparation, the manager comes out to let you know about their procedure, and the food is great!
I have eaten many dishes here and haven’t gotten sick- I am very sensitive. They recently changed their ability to accommodate and make all fried foods with rice flour! One of the only places I feel safe ordering fried chicken and French fries!
The menu has items that can be modified to be GF marked as such. When we arrived I was shown the GF markings on the menu. We ordered the fried pickles and I notified the server that I had a gluten allergy. Our server stated that “the entire menu was gluten free” which was contradictory to the hostess we were also told that all their bread was gluten free. I was immediately alarmed due to the fact that on the menu an extra charge of $2 is added to substitute gluten free bread. If all of the bread was GF then why would there be an extra charge? We orders 2 sandwiches and I specified that I wanted the GF bread for both to which the waitress again stated that the “all the bread is gluten free”. One thing I do commend the restaurant on is that the manager brings out the GF food. In my case it was a good thing because when our food was brought out I immediately noticed that the two sandwiches had two different types of bread. One was on a gluten free bun and the other was clearly not. When I brought up the matter the manager apologized and took the one sandwich away to fix it. Bottom line is that if you have a severe allergy I would steer clear of this place. Had I took the waitress’s word I would have unknowingly consumed gluten. It’s clear that the waitress was not educated on gluten allergies and was giving out incorrect information. Management handled the situation well and took the time to explain the mistake to the waitress. My hope is that this can be used as a learning experience for the staff on the severity of advertising gluten free options and not being knowledgeable on the topic.
The eggplant stack was PHENOMENAL!! The rosemary tots were also amazing! They use a designated fryer, so I felt very safe. The waitress was awesome and the manager double checked that everything was safe! I’ll definitely be back!!!!!
We went to Sunday brunch the only option before noon was the buffet. I recommend you wait until noon for menu options. They do have an omelette station that was all gluten free as part of the buffet The chef came out to review what choices were gluten free on the buffet line he was very attentive and was willing to answer questions. That was an added bonus he was really nice. If you trust a buffet line there were several gf options To choose from including the fish and chips
Not sure what happened but my celiac son got sick from eating here tonight. He ordered a gluten free hamburger and the bun was clearly gluten free but he still got sick. They had the manager bring out his food so I wonder if it was cross contamination in the kitchen. Guess we won’t be eating here again.
I live right near this one and have never had any problem at all. I check the reviews and went in and asked them a bunch of questions. They swear that they do have a dedicated fryer, the manager always brings out gluten-free dishes, and I have never gotten sick with a very severe form of celiac.
The staff was knowledgeable about allergies and made accommodations for a dairy allwrgy. Glutem-free and Vegetarian dishes are marked with special symbols on the menu and everything we ordered tasted good! We were happy with the selection, it's not like other places with one or two options total.
They are very helpful and knowledgeable. I ordered the fish and chips not realizing they would leave off the tartar sauce because it contained malt vinegar. I asked for some mayo on the side as a substitute and the waiter was nice enough to mix it with some relish and made me some GF tartar sauce! The only thing they deep fry with gluten is their waffle fries. I was told they give that it's own dedicated fryer so everything else isn't cross contaminated.
