Have eaten here several times in the last few months. Recently updated menu shows gluten free items, although staff is not terribly knowledgeable about items and cross contamination.
Restaurant was dirty the last time I was there, several unclean tables and restroom needed attention.
I used to really like eating at Zoe's but the last 3 or 4 times I've tried to eat there I have had problems. They are always very busy and it seems they struggle to fulfill their orders. Last time I went I ordered a cup of tomato basil soup (waited at least 15 minutes for it) and there were bread crumbs on the plate next to my soup. So basically they saw that it was supposed to be gf after they made it and took off the toast. When I questioned it they got an attitude and took it back to the kitchen very unhappily. Their restaurant is also very dirty, and it's hard to find a place to sit where there isn't food all over the floor and tables. I think they need new management desperately.
Follow up to original review below: we have now eaten here dozens of times. It seems like take out is not very careful about cross-contamination. My daughter has been sick both times (and yes, I made them aware of celiac and need for GF). And it depends upon the person taking the order as to whether they tell the kitchen staff GF. We have been served pita bread and had GF sides placed on the non GF order. đ. As with most restaurants, celiacs are always taking a risk.
Excellent for celiacs! The woman taking our order notified back the back and they have a standard protocol of wiping down surface and changing gloves that they follow. No explanation needed and my daughter ate with no issues at all!
Awful experience all around. The girl who took our order was completely clueless and when I told her I had a “gluten allergy”, she told me there was mayonnaise and yogurt in the things I had ordered, but “just a little bit”. So not only did she think gluten was dairy, but thought that a “little bit” was ok for someone with an allergy. I stopped asking questions because clearly she did not have the answers.
I ordered something that should not have come with pita so I didn’t think I had to specify to leave that out. My plate came with a big stack of pita chips on it so I couldn’t eat anything that was touching that stack. Miraculously I somehow didn’t get sick but would never trust this place again.
All celiac concerns aside, the food was not good and even my non-gf husband was super disappointed. The restaurant was super dirty too. One of the chairs at our table looked like it had mold growing on it. Maybe this place was great back in the day, according to the other reviews, but clearly those days are over!
My girlfriend ordered the kabobs and a salad and didn't get contaminated at all. This is a great place with great food, that seems to be very celiac friendly.
I felt they had a lot of options that we could eat.
Zoe’s has been a safe place for me until tonight. We always flag our items gluten free/celiac and call the store and have a conversation about the protocols to avoid cross contamination. Tonight, the potato salad in my salad that is labeled gluten free has PASTA NODDLES from their pasta salad all throughout, like it was purposely mixed in; not just a stray noodle laying on top. This was super troubling and now I don’t feel comfortable eating here as a celiac.
Girls at register were very nice, they have a separate GF menu with lots of options. Eating here currently, so im not entirely sure how its gonna be on my stomach but the falafel is real good and they said theyve changed gloves and stuff too so. Fingers crossed UPDATE: no glutening :)
I asked to speak to the manager here as the guy taking my order didn’t seem to understand what celiac was. But, the amazing manager took over and actually made my steak kabob herself, used clean pans. There is cross contamination here, ask questions about each thing. However, the manager (women) was so sweet and she seemed to really want me to have a safe and enjoyable meal. It was delicious! Thank you!!
Our celiac got the shrimp kebobs, tumeric rice and the baked falafel and tzatziki sauce. I had the avocado corn cobb salad which was also very tasty. There is a separate GF menu, but more of the menu items are options if you just order some of the plates without pita bread. The staff is willing to change gloves. Good experience.
Our meal was really good!!! We ordered 2 types of chicken skewer plates. Sides included Greek salad, roasted corn, roasted vegetables, and rice. We also had an assortment of sauces.
The only hiccup was that we ordered through a delivery app and noted instructions to leave out the pita due to celiac for both meals. One of the meals had pita bread shoved into the corner of the Togo box. I was able to remove it with some of the salad around it, as well. Ended up with no GI issues, so it all ended well. I did have to ding one star for that though.
All in All very celiac friendly, though. We would go back, but I might go pick up instead. :)
Not sick, which is a plus. Menu is marked GF bit has ‘pita’ with everything and pita is not GF. Make sure to be super clear to leave off pita. Taste is ok, cashier was not super helpful or knowledgeable, just kept saying if it says GF it is. Corn as a side sounds great but it was cold and I think better if hot.
We went two days in a row to the same Zoe’s near the Moorestown Mall. Day one was phenomenal. Food was great service was great and they understood being GF.
Day two was not as good. We ordered the roasted corn again and this time it came to the table nearly frozen. On day one they had just placed the corn in the oven, so we received it warm and delicious. On the second day it was frozen on the bottom. We just took it home in a take out container and microwaved it the next day. Otherwise the food is very good for “fast” food.
She loves kebabs so this was a big hit. We were all able to easily order GF so we could share which was a plus. She did not get sick and we felt comfortable with her food. The kids meals were probably too small for them and they are 6 & 8. So next time, I'll probably get them an adult meal.
Got chicken kabobs and potato salad and falafel. Chicken was cooked but not grilled. Potato salad was ok nothing special. Falafel had good flavor but wasn’t hot. Best quality of meal was didn’t make me sick at all.
