There’s not many places where I feel amazing after eating but 53 by the Sea is one of them. We booked a week or so in advance and they modified the tasting menu for us and it was just incredible. Even something like adapting the pappardelle to be heart of palm was so very much appreciated. Would absolutely recommend making the visit.

I made Christmas Day reservations for their Prix Fixe dinner and noted my allergy in the notes when submitting it online. Right away after being seated, I was able to relax, really for the first time ever in a restaurant, thanks to their acknowledgement of my allergy. Consistently throughout the various courses of the meal, the servers went out of their way to gently point out the details of substitutions that had been made to make certain that my food was all gluten-free. My soup (tomato) and dessert (trio of sorbets) were different from my companion's (he had, respectively, the ham velouté and egg nog paris-brest from the original menu). I felt so comforted and cared for by the whole experience. The scallop tiradito was beautifully presented with decorative small polished black stones underneath it. The third course, the black miso aged duck breast, was the best duck I had ever had in my life. Usually I have to discard lots of fatty skin when I have duck, but I could eat every bit of this one. Delicious, and a special evening to remember always.

I called ahead to let them know that I had a gluten allergy and they informed me that they definitely could accommodate. We came for dinner to celebrate our birthdays. We chose patio seating as the restaurant is right on the water with a view of Diamond Head. The building is also stunning. The waiter was very knowledgeable about what menu items could be made gluten free. I ordered the filet with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. The chef also made a special butter for the filet as I couldn’t have the sauces. The service was outstanding overall and the food was delicious. I recommend making a reservation and noting a gluten allergy as well as calling ahead to confirm!
