Incredible dining experience. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about gluten free and clearly communicated that items were gluten free when ordering and delivering food (e.g., we served it without the topping to make it GF). The food was amazing and it was a super unique experience in the tiny (4 tables plus bar), hopping establishment. It felt like we were stepping into an experience of another time and place not the heart of Union Square.

Asked what sushi was gluten free, the server said anything could be made gf... we ordered 4 rolls and asked for Tamari sauce and then after our rolls were served we mentioned something being gluten free and the server was puzzled and said 2 of the rolls weren’t gluten free. No offer to take them back, remake or waive from the check.

I had a delicious lunch today at Akiko's. They were very attentive to my Gluten concerns. I highly recommend the place.

The GF sauce was in a Tamari bottle and they corrected the dressing on cabbage tsukemono when they realised it wasn't GF. Salmon don't was really good. Very fresh sashimi. California rolls were wonderful. Pickled ginger was white and fantastic. Commercial pickled ginger in Australia is bright pink and artificially sweetened. This white ginger left that in the dust. They seem to be gluten aware.

The waitress seemed very confused when I asked about their gluten free options. Would steer clear.

Sushi chef prepared my sushi rolls separate from all others on a busy night. They have gluten free soy sauce too! The waitress checked in with me frequently to make sure everything was ok. Very attentive to my needs.
