Good GF pizza and popcorn. They have my favorite GF pizza in town; the Omnivore, no mushrooms, add bacon. It's delicious! The real butter popcorn is awesome, too!
Been to other Alamo draft house and had a great experience. Ordered gluten free hamburger which was terrible and not on gluten free bread.
New Belgian Glutiny Pale Ale was the one beer they had. I had the BBQ Chicken and Onions 12 inch gluten-free pizza which was very good and not so much I felt over filled. It was mid-afternoon so I was able to talk to the cook and asked what he felt he did the best. They carry GF buns for burgers as well. Will be back the next time in town!
They have huge issues with cross contamination. On their GF menu, it says that the fries are GF, and I asked the waiter if they are fried in the same fryer that cooks all the other gluten containing items. He said yes and argued with me that it doesn't matter and that fries are gluten free because they are just potatoes. I have tried their GF pizza several times, and got sick every single time because it's cooked with all the other regular pizzas. Don't even bother eating here if you have Celiac.
I ordered a GF pizza, one which had fried rosemary on it. Thankfully the fried rosemary isn't coated in any breading and they fried it separately from gluten containing foods for me. the only downside is it's $2.00 extra for the GF crust but I will say it was crispy and cooked well (unlike some other GF pizzas I've had). We also ordered popcorn, they were nice enough to split it into two bowls so my dad could have butter while I could have mine without.
Very helpful staff! Helped my husband & son be able to enjoy a movie out together safely while on vacay! They checked to make sure of the popcorn oil (as our little boy is GF & peanut free as well) & also checked the on the lemonade! They did have a GF menu, but the options don't sound completely "safe" for Celiac disease, so they stuck to popcorn instead of risking it.
I always make sure to talk to the waiter before the movie starts about my dietary needs. I've gotten pizza the past couple of times and no CC. There are limited options but the food is good overall. I don't go see movies anywhere else, even if I just order popcorn because of the atmosphere and funny clips before the movies.
We Love their Gluten Free pizza!! I just wish they had a dedicated fryer so I could enjoy the delicious cheese fries again but unfortunately they do not
The whole concept sounds good but it's just super distracting. I got the gf pizza and asked for no pepperoni and it came with pepperoni. It was super greasy and loaded with garlic. And to top it all off, I was sick by the end of the movie. Save your money. Go to a regular movie theater and get good food elsewhere beforehand.
Love this place for the movies old and new but so far not a huge fan of the menu. The first time I went I had the popcorn because I was so scared to get sick. Second time I had the pizza and it was so incredibly greasy me and my husband both felt sick after eating it. He has had other foods and loved them but he does not have a gluten intolerance like me. Maybe next time I'll try a salad but never again will I try the pizza! Even though it wasn't a gluten issue I still would not recommend because it was seriously a mess of grease. Yuck. I really wanted to try the fries but the waiter said everything was fried in the same fryers so the menu is limiting to salad and popcorn. So over eating salad every time I go out!
I've gotten served wheat THREE times. It's a great atmosphere, and love the concept, but serving supposed "gluten-free" food, in the dark, is a bad idea in general. The last go round, my hatch chili fries had a few chicken nuggets at the bottom of the pan! Not lying. The managers have always been very nice when the episodes have happened in past, but the truth is my life (I'm Epipen allergic to wheat) depends on their adherence to strict standards in their kitchen to keep their customers safe. Thus far, even after alerting the manager to my cross-contamination on other visits, I repeatedly have been exposed. So, again, great movies- life-threatening, (in my case) lax attention, to serving gluten-free!
I love the Drafthouse! The pizzas are outstanding, and they have gluten free buns for burgers/sandwiches. The staff is friendly and helpful, and are willing to sub. A GF bun in place of gluten items for many gluten menu items. As a bonus, there are plenty of naturally GF foods on the menu, like their loaded French fries and their chips and queso. The food is delicious and I love the array of options!
Love Alamo. Their gluten free pizza is great. I could live on their bottomless popcorn (the best deal for your money on their menu). Have not ordered a burger but glad to see they finally have local oven buns. You can also order cider or omission beer. Not sure I wouldn't change it to $$ since it gets pricey with the (slightly higher than normal) GF upcharge on the crust.
Great gf pizza.
I just went there (March 17, 2014). I was nervous about getting sick, but I asked the waitress (Gabbie I believe was her name), she was so nice and very understanding and accommodating. We ordered the French fries as an appetizer, I asked if they were fried in the same oil as other foods like wings, etc. she told me that she believed they were separate but she was going to have the kitchen fry my order in a completely separate fryer. I got the chicken Caesar salad and a salted caramel shake. Everything was beyond delicious. I didn't get sick at all. I know they also have gluten free pizzas as well and know others that have not gotten sick from eating them. I will try that next time. I hope this helps all of you celiacs!!
Gluten free pizza and fries are delicious! Just make sure your waiter/waitress reminds the cook to cook the crust before they put the toppings on and then again after toppings are added. I have had to send it back a couple of times.
They do not know how to cook the GF pizza. I have given it many tries as I'm a movie freak , but it's always not crisp,, soggy and disappointing. I've started eating before I go now.
Gluten free is NOT at Alamo. They have an open air kitchen and toss their own pizza dough. I got sick off of the Cobb Salad. I gave them 3 tries and got sick each time. This is specific to the one at Lake Creek in Austin. Maybe the difference is having Celiac disease versus choosing to be gluten free - as someone with Celiac, I definitely can't eat here. The chef and manager have confirmed they are not safe for those with Celiac.
We visited the Slaughter location for the first time tonight. Upon arrival, I was impressed as they let me go look at the theater to decide where we wanted to sit and they took the time to go over the gluten free options with me and explained that the kitchen takes precautions when serving gluten free. Well, I ordered a burger without the bun and a side of chips and salsa, knowing that the fries aren't gluten free. They brought out a full order of chips and salsa which was more than I wanted (or wanted to pay for) but I let it go. Then, they brought out a burger without the bun but covered in fries. So I wrote a note to the server telling him I couldn't have the fries because I am gluten free. He promised to take care of it. So he took it back, they removed the fries and tried to reserve it to me. How do I know? Because there were still a couple of fries on my plate! So I wrote another note explaining that removing the fries doesn't mean the burger hasn't been contaminated. I asked them to just take it back and remove it from our ticket. Adding to the frustration, when they brought it out the second time, they had covered it with chips (which is what I originally asked for) but I removed the chips and added them to my chip basket so I could see the burger, not knowing they had sent out the same contaminated burger. So now, my chip basket was contaminated. So I couldn't eat that either. But the most frustrating part was how much it interrupted my movie experience having to deal with the kitchen so much. Honestly, after the movie, I expected someone to come over and talk to me but all I got was "sorry" written on the receipt. They took off the cost of the burger but that was it. Some of us are gluten free not by choice but because it actually makes us sick. I appreciate that you offer gluten free options, but after tonight's experience, I can't say your kitchen is well trained in these matters.
who doesn't enjoy Alamo draught house? and its even better when enjoying some delicious pizza on a gluten free crust! At one time they even had some really delicious gf beer on the menu. Green's endeavour I believe it was. of course they don't have a gf kitchen so there is risk, but personally I've had no trouble. I've always had a good experience here, so enjoy!
Very good food, lots of interesting beer options for the non-gf folks, cool concept, but not too many straight up gf options. Nice to see the gf designation on the menus though!!!
They're now annotating the regular menu with the gluten-free items, but they've taken some options away that were on the original gluten-free menu. There aren't that many options, but it's definitely nice to be able to go watch a movie and have a snack and a Redbridge.
