On Easter, my grandpa got pastries for my family and saw a gluten free cupcake. He told them I had an allergy and ordered one for me. When he brought them over to my house, they put the gluten free cupcake in the box with the regular pastries so I obviously couldn’t eat it. The next day, my grandma went in and the young girls behind the counter apologized and she explained to them why it was important to separate them. The girls said they would be telling the rest of the staff as they didn’t know about contamination. Yesterday, my cousin went there to bring dessert to my house and ordered me a gluten free mini cheesecake and after informing them about the allergy, the same thing happened again! We called them and they said it was our fault for them being in the same box and we should have paid more attention when the girls were boxing it up. My grandma went in this morning to speak to the owner and tell him what had happened and he told her that there’s “no point in training my staff because they’re going to do whatever they want to do anyway.” He never once apologized. My grandma asked him if they would box it up separately if it was a nut allergy and he said yes with no hesitation so she explained to him that gluten should be treated the same way. He told her that he didn’t care and to not come back if she didn’t like the way he handles gluten free and he will not be informing his staff of “our mistake” since we didn’t specifically request a separate box. The owner never once apologized and told her she could have one replacement gluten free cheesecake. I’ve eaten gluten free items from there before and have never gotten sick, but I’ll never trust them again. The owner was extremely nasty to her and not receptive to feedback when she was explaining why this could have gone in a very bad direction and what they should do in the future. My family frequents there for non-gluten free items and won’t be going back
