Very limited options, difficult to decipher allergen menu, uninformed wait staff and after all the education and double checking.. still ended up contaminated. FYI- the allergen menu lists some items as free of wheat (salsa chips, French fries, etc.) but they are fried with wheat. Won't be going back!
Their regular menu is so complicated and then to look each item up in a book of allergies. It's impossible. Waitress was no help, said they can't guarantee GF. Why have Applebees in this app? I went with the allergy menu and hostess digestion but was sickened.
I ordered gluten free asked 3 times to make sure confirmed when the food was delivered. Before I was half done with the chicken I was running for the bathroom. I will not go back.

It was an awful experience!!!! The manager and waitress were extremely rude very uneducated on the needs of a person with a gluten allergy and I left hysterically crying! They had a "gluten free menu" but when I asked questions the manager pointed things out on said menu and said the spices they use have gluten in them ... THEN WHY ARE THEY ON A GLUTEN FREE MENU!!! it was the worst experience ever and was even harder considering it was my first experience dining out after being given the news about my new allergy. I highly recommend NOT going to Applebee's on Arsenal street I will MEVER EVER go back
Allergy menu but no gf specific menu. I are the fiesta chicken salad minus the dressing. Not bad, but the waitress didn't really listen...

They have a separate menu dedicated for gluten and wheat sensitivities (as well as other food allergens), but the store manager will tell you straight out that it's possible to have gluten get in your food with its preparation. I've been burned here. Avoid it if you can.
We ate lunch at the Applebee's in Flint, Michigan. There are six of us, but only four have celiac disease. The single allergy menu that was given to us was very hard to read. It listed every item on the regular menu, and if an allergen was present, it was marked with an X. It did not indicate that many items, such as the fries and the chips, are cooked in shared oil, and are not actually gluten free. The staff did not seem to understand why we were so concerned about contamination, and did not have the answers to our questions readily available. The service was slow, even though the restaurant was not crowded at all. The music was loud, and the TVs were everywhere and very distracting. Although the food was good, we are very nervous that we might get sick from this trip. Perhaps it is just this particular Applebee's that isn't optimal for people with celiac disease, but safe to say we will not be eating at any Applebee's again unless we receive word that they have improved a significant amount.
It was almost impossible to find anything gluten free and dairy free. They have an allergy menu, but the fries are marked gluten free even though they are done in a fryer with other things. Baked potatoes are rolled in butter before baking. The one good thing was a knowledgeable waitress.
This Applebee's is wonderful!!! My daughter and I both have Celiac Disease and every time we eat at this location we always have a wonderful experience! The staff is always careful when bringing our food out as well as double checking everything we order with the manager to make sure there hasn't been any changes(to make sure the item is still prepared GF). They are AWESOME!!
My family and I have been to numerous Applebees before with no problem at all! But this particular one made both myself and my daughter very sick. I ordered my usual(sizzling chicken and shrimp with sweet potato fries --all of which is on their gluten free menu). My daughter order chicken grillers which were part of the their GF menu and she didn't even eat her applesauce just the chicken and we both got very sick! We both have Celiac so this is a major problem! I will never go back to this particular Applebee's again. I have been to the Applebee's in Pooler (not too far away) with absolutely no problems I always have a great experience!
This is the second time I have attempted to eat here. I made it VERY clear I had a gluten allergy and once again the gave me a salad with croutons . Avoid at all costs .
The waitress plopped a huge binder down for me to paruse that outlines ALL ingredients for every food, and not very clearly, then promptly disappeared for a very long time. It is extremely difficult to figure out what they do have that's gf. And even more difficult to ask questions from someone working there. It is not clear at all from the way it's written. Not to mention it isn't even up to date with their new menu. No one, not even me after studying this binder for a half hr, could tell me definitively what was gluten free. I did not get sick, shockingly, after picking something I thought might be ok, but didn't know at all for sure. I will never eat here again. From what I could tell, they literally had maybe 2 things that are celiac friendly. More if you include beverages.
They have updated their menu and I am sorry to say, have reduced the number of items that are GF. They provided their large allergen list and upon review, there is actually very little that is truly GF. It is unfortunate that at least at the nearest location to me, the manager was not helpful at all.
The staff here is trained on how to avoid gluten, so just make sure you let your server know if you have Celiac, and they'll help you out. There's also a nifty little allergen list on their website that tells you whether or not a menu item you're looking at has gluten ingredients, which I found to be very helpful.The only reasons why I'm not giving this 5 stars are 1. because the menu itself does not specify what does and doesn't contain gluten ingredients, and they also don't offer GF substitutes for bread/pasta, so it's kind of difficult to find something to eat, and 2. because they don't have a dedicated GF fryer. Other than that, though, I thought they were very good. I got the Fiesta Lime Chicken and it was quite tasty. :)
I have celiac, I went to Applebee's at like 11pm after going to the casino. When I was being seated I asked to have a gluten free menu and she said she would send the manager out. This manager was horrible. She said that none of her back staff were trained and that it was up to me to figure it out. No promises. Then I tried to explain cross contamination hoping she could have them clean there work space and she kept repeating they can't promise anything and that they are not trained for this. Definitely not celiac friendly.
they got rid of my ribblets, which I never got sick on. new menu, waiter not educated on gluten. didn't get sick the first time, did the second trip.
Very limited gluten free options. Started to actually like the beef verde nachos (I think thats what they called it?) but then they changed from shredded beef to some sort of nasty beef- ground I think but chewy weird texture. Service the last few times has been really slow. I don't see any reason to go back. Even my gluten eating friends don't go there anymore.
Gluten free menu isn't good. waitress was great about everything, but the food is never that great. Probably don't go here.
The "gluten free menu" consisted of a binder filled with tables that had columns for multiple different food allergies. You have to find your item, and then trace over and find the columns that correspond with your allergy. None of the prices are listed in the binder. I suppose this would be helpful for someone with multiple food allergies, but as a newly diagnosed Celiac, this was an overwhelming and cumbersome system.
They provide an allergen menu, however it was out of date. The items I tried to order from the allergen menu weren't even offered by the restaurant. My server was fairly knowledgeable, however, and offered suggestions. After cross referencing the allergen menu, I went with her suggestions of honey bbq baby back ribs and fries with a side salad. Unfortunately someone brought out the salad with croutons, but my server swept in and took control. She made a new, safe salad and brought it out, personally. It was a pretty good meal. I wish Applebee's was a little more up to date with a gluten free menu, but I seemed to luck out with a knowledgeable server.
The only reason I gave this location three stars is because of the service. It was slow, felt like I was invisible half of the time, and felt like my server didn't care if I had special diet needs. It was a good thing that I knew about their special diet needs notebook because otherwise I would have been wondering if my food was really safe to eat.
I get the Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp every time. It's frustrating because it seems like they have a bunch of menu items that are close to gf except for a flour tortilla or a wheat thickened sauce or wonton chips. They really could do better as a national chain. Until then, I'm limited to Bourbon Street, chicken wings, or salads.
We ate at the one I Teays Vally on vacation while our waiter was very helpful and understood cross contamination their menu was horrible had to look through a 3 ring binder for what was gf and then go find it in 3 different menus they had. Said the bone in wings are gf but waiter said fried with all chicken so they are not.
Giving this a 3 star because my celiac did not get sick. She got the bacon hamburger without the bun and a side fries. They did have some gf options on the menu. However, the menu is not exactly a menu. It's several pieces of paper with the ingredients listed and and the allergen is x marked. So, be prepared to read through that. :) But, the service was extremely slow on top of waiting 25 minutes to be seated. We had a party of 6 (baby was sleeping) and we saw several other parties of 3-5 show up after of us, order, serve and leave. Our waitress was trying, but the kitchen staff just did not seem to care or they forgot about us. My food as well as my husbands was cold. A few managers came by to check in us. They microwaved the food, discounted our meal $25 and gave us a $10 voucher, so they tried to make it right. We were never rude about it, but as weary travelers we just wanted to eat and get back on the road. By the time we got through we were there for over 2 hours. 😕
The manager came out and explained the allergy menu to me which was very nice and made me feel better as I was nervous eating here due to so many people saying the Applebee's chains made them sick every time. I got the fiesta lime chicken and the garlic mashed potatoes with ranch. Everything was delicious and I did not get sick.
Be very careful if you are GF. The wait staff may or may not understand the concept of GF and/or care. I was told an item on the menu was GF she THOUGHT. She was going to check and come back for another option/order if it was NOT. She didn't come back so I assumed she was correct that the new item was GF. Wrong!!! I was sick for about 5 days. She didn't care I suppose or thought it wasn't important. Can't complain that they were too busy. I was at a table of 2 and we were the only customers in at the time. I am giving them a GF unfriendly rating due to this. Note: This was the Applebee's in Ephrata. I didn't notice the location until I posted this.
1 star because I can't give it 0. The worst service we've ever received at any restaurant. Ever. Wait staff had no idea what was even on the menu. It should never take 2.5 hrs to get in and out of Applebee's. Food arrived wrong. Incorrect checks were discussed between tables near us because we were ALL overcharged. We will NEVER go to this location again.
This restaurant is not gluten free friendly. There is no gluten free menue they have one binder thst lists nutritional information and each meal by catagory with allergen warnings. General manager seemed to be accomidating as I advised of my needs.The food seemex ok but bland.With in an hour or so of eating the supposed. gluten free meal I had a serious reaction with abdomial cramps and diarhea. all night. Stay away from. Applebees!
I did not like this place, and I will not be coming back. When I asked for a gluten free menu, I was given a regular menu, and gigantic binder that said what on the menu contained dairy, wheat, gluten, soy, etc. It was very complicated to find out what I could eat and what I could not eat😕. I had a small reaction afterward.
