I'm traveling. It's the last day before I fly home. A friend took me through San Francisco and we had a great time. No issues there, had lunch in a dedicated GF restaurant (The Game Parlour in SF, fantastic mochi waffles).

Dinner in the way to my hotel back was another supposedly GF place: Asian Box. I was psyched to have a banh mi on GF bread! But it wasn't the bread that did me in. It's the sauce that I'd never heard of before, but (stupidly) assumed that because the place was dedicated GF, would not have gluten in it.

I just woke up at 12am with shooting gut pains and feeling the worst chills I've ever felt -- thought I was dying tbh. And the intestinal stuff has hit, so I looked up the bahn mi ingredients, and the sauce listed on the bahn mi ingredient list, Maggi, is literally made of hydrolyzed wheat protein! What the actual f***?

I told the server that I was excited to have a banh mi because I hadn't had one since before I was diagnosed with celiac! The place has great reviews here, and I thought I'd found a gem. Instead I'm awake four hours before I have to leave for the airport feeling like death, and how am I going to manage flying cross-country with celiac cross contamination symptoms (the gross ones)? Damn it. I hate travel 😭
