Aunt Betty's Ice Cream Shack

This review is for their location at 40th and West in OCNJ. I didn’t visit the other locations. Went here in the summer of 2022 and summer 2023. As soon as we mentioned the need for gluten free, the girls knew what to do. Gloves were changed and the gluten free options and safeguards were communicated with us. As usual, the soft serve was GF. They had GF cones. My kids wanted jimmies, so they opened a new container to avoid any possibility of cross contamination. On both visits, the girl helping us took charge and made her coworkers clearly aware that she was working on a GF order and not to get in her way. These people were serious about making sure our order was GF. AND… they were very kind. Also, on both visits it was very crowded and that didn’t seem to bother them. As always, don’t let your guard down, but this is a place i feel comfortable with. I have celiac disease and so do two of my children.

I called to check their gluten free options and was told they had plenty and were very careful when it came to food allergies. So we went there and they had a long list of gluten free options. I got the raspberry truffle with M&Ms. The person helping me put on gloves and scooped with a fresh spoon out of a new container to avoid any contamination. The ice cream was delicious and I had no adverse reactions—I have celiacs. Also, the staff was super friendly and very accommodating.

100% recommend! Nina and Lauren were great and very considerate about cross contamination. They both made sure to either scrap off the top of the water ice container and open a brand new ice cream tub! Also offer gluten free cones which is SO exciting!

This place is delicious! They have gf cones, a list of all flavors that are gf, and they scoop your ice cream from a brand new container to avoid any CC!

This location was an amazing experience for my daughter and myself who are both celiac. The two young ladies that assisted us explained all of our possible options, all the precautions they would take, and were extremely friendly and helpful. The two of us had our first banana splits ever and they were delicious, safe and we weren’t treated like difficult customers. They took such excellent care of us and went well beyond our expectations to give us a summer treat! Will definitely return and share the love!

I asked for the gluten free flavors (there is a list) and mentioned I had celiac disease and the staff immediately said they’d open a new container and clean the scoop for me. I was able to watch them handle my ice cream the entire time and they changed their gloves, got a new scoop, and got a Joy brand gluten free cone from a box. They didn’t upcharge for the GF cone either! First ice cream I’ve been able to have in a cone since diagnosis.

Staff was fantastic. A list of gluten free flavors chart right on the counter and they asked if it’s an allergy. Fresh spoon and fresh ice cream from the back put on a gluten free cone. Awesome tasting as well

Celiac friendly?

The girl who helped us was celiac herself so she was very knowledgeable. She scooped out of knew containers and even opened new ones for samples! The three celiacs in our family actually got to have gluten free cones! Also one of the best ice creams I’ve had. Skip the boardwalk and make sure to come here instead.

When we walked in I told the woman behind the counter that our son has a severe gluten allergy (he has celiac but people seem to understand “allergy” better). She immediately said she would wash her hands, use a clean spoon, and scoop from a new container. They also had gluten free cones and a huge list right on the counter of all their gluten free flavors. Great experience for our family!

Great ice cream! They have a list of a lot of gluten free flavors. They also have gluten free cones (at least last season they did). The workers are very understanding. They opened a new container for me and used a clean scoop, and they were happy to do so.
