When I ate here last year, I was very nervous. The fryer was shared, and it seemed like the salad was the safest bet. I talked to the server for a while and was very specific about needing no croutons, and she assured me the salads didn’t come with croutons. I asked her to put a note anyway, and the salad came out with croutons. I’m shocked by the comments saying they got gluten-free buns because server had almost no idea what gluten was. I don’t like bbq, so if you do maybe there would be more options.

I was nervous about eating here because they are not dedicated gluten free. I asked a day ahead of time if they were able to provide accommodations for someone with celiac. The guy I spoke with didn’t know exactly what I was asking, but assured me if I told the server I needed a gluten free meal they would be able to that. This wasn’t exactly reassuring so I went still pretty nervous.
However as soon as I told the server I had celiac, she immediately nodded and said “I got you.” I was soooo relieved but still cautious. She helped me look through the menu and find gluten free options. I ended up getting a burger with a gluten free bun (wow! Didn’t expect that). The server recommended the sweet potato fries but wouldn’t let me order them until she asked the chef if they fried them in a separate frier. Unfortunately they did not, so I had to skip the fries, but I was still very impressed with my servers knowledge and care.
The restaurant itself is not dedicated gluten free nor do they advertise as such, but this particular server was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. I would definitely make sure to explain I have celiac beforehand, though.
I had absolutely no problems after the meal and I felt very comfortable eating there. I will definitely be coming back to backyard bistro. I wish I remembered my servers name! She was amazing!!

I read other reviews. Waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. So I told her I was gf and knew I couldn’t have the fries. I ordered gf brisket sandwich, cole slaw and mixed veggies, no fries. Waitress out in the order as gf. She said they had a system so she just out gluten allergy and it was all set. Except when the food came I started pushing food around to check it and there were fries. The waitress didn’t deliver it and the person who delivered it was uninformed and needed clarification that I really didn’t want fries. Be careful.

The best gluten free bun I’ve ever had. The staff was very knowledgeable and got all my questions answered quickly! Highly recommend if you’re going to PNC
Not bad! Hostess was very knowledgeable and explained they had a gf bun and that the fryer was not safe. She and the waiter then confirmed all the grilled wings flavors were ok except redneck flavor. They said all the salad dressings were safe as well. We had bbq (good!) and jerk wings (very hot!), a wedge salad, lettuce wrapped bison burger and potato salad with an omission beer. Not sick and the Canes won!!! Win-win!! ☺

Nothing listed on menu. Some servers pretend they know what’s gf and some go “check” with chef on what’s gf if you have a specific question. Cross contamination for sure.
Nice gluten friendly menu. Options listed on regular menu. Some risk for contamination but staff friendly and helpful. Pork shoulder good.
