I’ve eaten at Barroco several times and always felt a little off afterwards. They’ve recently changed their menu and no longer note which items are gf, opting instead for a vague claim at the bottom of the menu that “99%” of the menu is gf. I called prior to going to confirm whether the maduros, plantains, and yucca chips were fried in a dedicated fryer (I normally get the Ropa Vieja arepa). The hostess confirmed with the kitchen that these items are cooked in the same fryer as the empanadas, rendering all fried items not safe for celiacs. The food isn’t bad, but I’m sensitive to cross-contamination and am not confident I could identify a safely gf item on the menu as it stands.
