We tried it last night for the first time and it was amazing! Tons of gluten free options for dinner and in the dessert room very celiac friendly!

We had an incredible experience last night. We told our server that we had 2 people with celiacs at the table and he was amazing and explained to them how things would be done differently for them. Their food was even brought on a separate trays. The gluten free onion rings were amazing too!!

As a gluten-intolerant person testing the way for my sensitive, symptomatic, celiac daughter, I have eaten here numerous times pre-covid while in Tampa on business. I have always been impressed. I was thrilled to finally bring her to Bern's! While the menu has been simplified, the options are extensive for both gluten and dairy issues. The wait staff is extensively knowledgeable and the Celiac protocol is amazing. Bern's is great because a steak dinner comes with french onion soup (gluten-free without the crouton, dairy free without the cheese), side salad (specifically made to be safe according to your needs), fully-loaded baked potato (with any/all toppings on the side and all = gluten free), onion ribbons (which they make separately with rice flour and fry in a separate pan/pot for gluten free orders) and endless fresh veggies (with or without butter as needed). I used to get a 6 oz. filet mignon and the smallest now is 9oz. We both gorged ourselves and had leftovers to spare. We were also the only gluten free order at the time, so the server delivered the ENTIRE batch of onion ribbons to us (which must have been at least a half-dozen servings!). The same care and consideration was available in the dessert room upstairs, even if options were more limited. I had ice cream and she had 3 flavors of sorbet. We were almost too stuffed for dessert but the experience is essential to Bern's so we forced ourselves! We were seated directly next to the live piano player which was also a treat.

least accommodating restaurant I’ve ever been to. waiter told me “I got you” and didn’t allow me to order my own food + didn’t explain the menu which is completely unlabeled for food allergies. Instead, had horrible French onion soup, “gluten free onion rings” which is just a pile of crispy onion straws, and wasn’t told until end of meal that they have “amazing gluten free pasta made here in Tampa Bay.” I would have much rather had pasta than what I was given after being told he “got me.” Dessert room is the same thing. No labels, but at least the waitress was funny and kind.

Bern’s goes above and beyond for allergy friendly dining! The servers are educated about celiac and gluten intolerances. Not only did the server make sure that my food was gluten free but also checked with the chef to make sure no cross contamination would occur. I’ve never had a restaurant offer to check for cross without me asking. I felt so included and safe! I had a delicious meal (and dessert in the dessert room) and was not sick at all. One of my favorite places in Tampa.

We’ve been here a few times and every time has been wonderful! Have never gotten glutened. The servers are very knowledgeable and so is the kitchen staff. They make all the necessary substitutions to avoid cross-contamination. The food is excellent! The short rib risotto is phenomenal and their steaks and sides are always so good. We love the dessert room and the macadamia nut ice cream and creme brûlée.

Amazing gluten free experience! GF onion soup, onion straws and steak. Worth every penny! Dessert menu has a number of options as well.

Not only is this a great steakhouse in Tampa but they offer some amazing gluten free versions of their sides and entrees. If you let your server know you need to eat GF they will bring out gluten free French onion soup.

Bern’s is very celiac friendly. They can customize their French onion soup to be GF and also have GF onion straws. Steak here is fantastic as well.

The staff was very experienced and knowledgeable and assured us the food was safe. The dessert room server even asked my daughter specifically if she had Celiac or a gluten allergy. The food was very good and my daughter enjoyed her steak, fried onion strings, and creme brûlée. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because my daughter did bring her Nima sensor and the French onion soup tested positive for gluten. She also tested the fried onion strings and those were safe. She did not get sick and we enjoyed the experience. Even though the soup did test positive, we would eat there again.

Extremely knowledgeable about GF and cross contamination. Outstanding food. Hands down the best steak I’ve ever had, which is a high compliment from a Texan!

One of the best gluten free experiences and meals I’ve ever had! Waiter was very knowledgeable and confident they could provide gluten free versions of my meal as ordered. They made all of the “normal” dinner options as gluten free. I had soup, salad and steak just like everyone else. It was awesome!!! Did not find dessert room staff to be as knowledgeable though and skipped dessert (bummer) to be safe.

Staff was very knowledgeable about celiac. They offered fried onions, dessert, onion soup, etc all made gluten free. My daughter ate there successfully and was delighted to eat foods she isn’t usually able to eat. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about gluten free and made be feel very well taken care of. They have gf options for everything so you never feel left out of a part of the meal.

This restaurant takes gluten free (and dairy free) very seriously. They have a dedicated GF fryer for their GF crispy onion strings. They will also make the French onion soup GF DF by leaving off the bread and cheese (essentially serving you a deeply rich beef broth.) I always request duck fat for my plain baked potato and they are happy to oblige. We eat here frequently and I've never had an issue. Would highly recommend. And for a more reasonable but still very satisfying dinner, the chopped salad is large enough to serve four people!! And can be made GF DF, and an option to select your choice of steak, chicken or shrimp. They haven't been in business for 60 years for no reason. Try it! 🍷👍🏼😊
The staff was well educated on gluten free and made sure the chef was aware of my condition. I will absolutely be back when I am in the area.
