Not safe for those with a diagnosed allergy to gluten. They have optional buns, but chefs, and food preparers do not change gloves, no allergy announcement, put gluten free burger on same tray touching regular burger, and the worst is that when asking for extra protections you get those non-believer states and snarky grimace faces.

I ate here twice in one week when I was visiting San Antonio. They have a separate fryer for French fries and sweet potato fries. The food was delicious and I did not get sick.
Someone posted in October 2021 they no longer have a dedicated fryer. I called today, 5/25/22 and they DO still have a dedicated fryer. Yay!!

Our favorite celiac-friendly burger joint in San Antonio. Whenever we're in the mood for a burger, we make the trek to Big'z. Good food, dedicated fryers, and HUGE outdoor patio area that makes dining in during these COVID times much safer than normal.

Husband has Celiac and is extremely sensitive. He was able to to make an order with a cashier that was knowledgeable and eat without complications. Plus we were able to bring our dogs!!! Delicious hamburgers, too!!!!

our favorite burgers in SA, the best burgers are the ones you can actually get cook to order. I get mine without the bun just on lettuce and Love that I can get fries and not have to worry about it.
Big'z Burgers are great! We were told they fry their regular fries and potato chips in dedicated fryers, but the sweet potato fries are fried in the same fryers they use for breaded stuff. We have successfully eaten at Big'z with no problems, and my wife has likely the most sensitive case of Celiac Disease ever. However, we noticed a change in how the location on 151 Hey does set up that will keep us from going back. No one was wearing gloves, and the same person setting up lettuce and tomatoes was also doing the buns. Bare handed! I caught and asked for a fresh set up, which they were happy to do with a person with freshly washed hands. We both always order our burgers without buns, we choose to skip the gluten free carbohydrate bomb. Laura did not have a reaction, so the fresh set up must've worked, but not going back until they change how they do set up and go back to wearing gloves.

Gluten free buns available. I did not get to see the prep but they assured me they are careful with cross contamination. Fries and homemade potato chips are not ok as they fry everything in the same oil with breaded items. :( Great atmosphere for kids. They have a huge turf area for them play games on. Indoor and outdoor picnic table seating.

Cashier seemed unsure about GF status of most items, but was willing to ask. Meal came out with my daughters meal on top of my GF meal, so kitchen practices could use some education. They did remake my meal when I expressed concern.
