So nice to have a gluten free cafe near the beach. My son can eat here without any worries about cross contamination. Loved the sandwiches and even had a milkshake. Everything was excellent and will go back next time we're at the beach.

It is such a treat to eat at a place where absolutely no gluten resides. :) I thoroughly enjoyed a Maple Chai, a carrot ginger soup and a melty cheese (with tomato) sandwich. The wait time was a little long because three parties arrived at about the same time and there was only one person working, but it was worth the wait! And there's a nice little market (with lots of gluten free options available) attached. Worth a visit, for sure!

Always a great option. My son and I are celiac and love going here. We have to keep the other kids and my husband away from our delicious treats. Love to pick up some groceries in the store and have lunch in the cafe. Always great muffins to go.

This is a great option where I feel comfortable purchasing food for my son who is celiac. It tastes good and it's safe! However, I am sad to write this review after spending a few hundred dollars here on a couple of visits. The owner does not have the best customer service which is unfortunate when you go out of your way and spend a significant amount of money. She needs to be more kind and less preachy!

Dedicated gluten free bakery! Everything is gluten free and freshly baked !!!

It is not a fancy restaurant but rather a great lunch/breakfast cafe! People that work there are super friendly and love to talk to you about how they started the cafe! I love them so friendly and welcoming!

I had their quiche which was fantastic with a side salad. Wonderful homemade apple save with a little cinnamon. Their muffins are to die for! Just so tasty and their texture is amazing!

This place is well rounded and very tasty and it just happens to be gluten free. I would highly recommend going there even if you don't have to be gluten free!

My family and I have been coming to Bethany Beach for 30+ years and when a waitress at a local restaurant told us about the Birch Tree Cafe (and Good Earth Store) we drove over the next day.

We have tried many items here and have enjoyed them all. Pies at Thanksgiving and muffins to eat with coffee on the beach among my favorites.

We have always been greeted in a friendly and inviting way and highly recommend this for everyone, not just those with food allergies.

Enjoy!

I hate to give them their first negative review but was very disappointed. We never actually purchased anything from them. The server was very " better than thou"and rude. We actually thought she was a customer because she never greeted us until we moved her table. She was buried in a book or whatever she was doing. Very disappointing for this Delaware native. Then she "scolded" us for moving her tables citing we would scratch her floors. Not a high end restaurant but a little cafe. If you don't want the tables moved 2ft then put up a sign. Or put down what you are doing and greet us with a smile. Also the menu is very limited and and very pricey for a very rural part of Delaware. Only visit this place if you are highly sensitive and need a dedicated gluten free facility.

While this place is not a "restaurant" in the way many people think of it the food was none the less wonderful! They are a small cafe inside an organic grocery store. But it was perfect for a causal meal with my two young children. I arrived with my kids at 5:30pm on a Saturday to find out that they stopped table service at 4:30pm and only had take out. I was flustered to say the least. They bent over backwards to help me out and served us some outstanding muffins and sandwiches. My son and I have been gluten free for almost 3 years and while I've "perfected" a lot of gluten free substitutes at home I've never made or bought bread as good as these ladies make. My 6 year old declared the chocolate chip and cinnamon muffins "heaven". I had a chickpea salad sandwich and my daughter had a crab cake sandwich. Both were excellent and the side of applesauce was delicious too! I left after dinner with a grocery bag, having additionally bought two loaves of bread, a pint of the chickpea salad in a tub, and six muffins! My kids said they want to go back tomorrow. I highly recommend this cafe.

Amazing gluten free options! The staff is very passionate about their products and it really shows in their food. favorites include their gazpacho soup, the vegetable sandwich, their homemade breads and muffins! Everything is so so amazing and the best part is they ship some of their products to my house for me when I'm not in the area! If you ever need a good place where you can finally eat a great sandwich with amazing bread this is the place!!

Finally a gluten free bread that tastes good and can hold up a sandwich. Kitchen is gluten free and everything I tried was yum. My only complaint is the wonderful owner needs more help so she can produce more items and not burn out. Seriously 3 people were trying to get the last bag of croustini and this was at the start of the holiday weekend. If I lived closer I would volunteer my time just to make sure this place makes it.

A dream come true! Gluten free breads that do not have the gf after taste! It was so freeing to pick any item from their menu and know I wouldn't get sick afterwards!

This is a must place to visit when in the area of Bethany Beach! Make sure you meet the owner. She is delightful and knowledgable! We are heading back tomorrow on our way home from vacation. Time to stock our freezer!

Excellent cafe for brunch, lunch or a snack. A must stop for anyone on a gluten free diet, visiting Ocean City, Bethany Beach or Rehoboth. I brought my family here twice during a recent two day stay in the area. We had brunch both days (BLTs, chicken salad sandwiches and amazing fruit smoothies). We also loaded up on goodies for out hotel, including muffins, salads and really wonderful bread. The owner is Celiac and very knowledgeable about food prep issues, including use of trusted brands/manufacturers. Wish there was a little safe haven like this in the DC area!

Wonderful. My husband had a blt and I had a pizza with just daiya cheese because of my soy intolerance. Both were delicious! There are also plenty of yummy desserts to choose from. If you have any additional allergies, they are very accommodating. Check out the attached grocery store, too.
