I was told most things on the menu could be made gluten free. I ended up with the pork chop, which was delicious. A little over half way through, I bit into something that tasted and crunched like a cracker or bread crumb. Within an hour I became very ill. Amazing restaurant but not for celiacs.

I am Celiac and had checked with the restaurant and other reviews before visiting to ensure that I could safely eat there. While I could eat there, the selection was EXTREMELY limited. The way that they were able to make the already limited selection for gluten free food safe was to remove items from the dish. While this is normal expectation when eating out as a celiac, but in Blue Ridge where other restaurants are able to offer full flavorful meals without sacrificing ingredients or quantities, the Black Sheep completely drops the ball on this. The Shrimp and Grits were very lack luster. The grits were like soup and since items needed to be removed all I had for my meal were 5 pieces of shrimp and the runny, soupy grits. Extremely not worth the price I paid.

They had very few options for me. They offered me gluten free pasta or a salad. When I asked about entrees they said they couldn’t make any of them work as is. We eat out at nicer restaurants often, and I’ve never experienced this where the chef had zero interest in adapting any of the entrees to fit my needs. I wanted a protein, so they suggested the ribeye plain. I received an over cooked and over salted steak, with borderline raw asparagus as my side. Service and meal were not good. But even my husband, who has no dietary restrictions, felt the service was awful and the food was just okay. Won’t be back.

New ownership abruptly changed their ability to reliably prepare meals for people with food allergies. I was told that a [very expensive] item was GF. The exposure I had at Black Sheep set off an autoimmune flare that lasted for about six weeks. Definitely, definitely ask pointed questions about the kitchen, and speak to someone in person.
Almost all food contains soy sauce. Always ask questions and then ask them again!
1-servers were wonderful! 2-4/5 of menu contain gluten. I do not feel comfortable at all about safety/cross contamination 3-no GFMenu 4-GF items are not marked -have to go on the server’s knowledge 5- I ate the lamb chop special/no sauce with a side salad/balsamic vinaigrette and had a reaction.

Server wasn’t very knowledgeable but she was nice and willing to fix errors. They were slammed so maybe it was just stress. I ordered the lamb lollipops for appetizer, first plate came out with fried onions and she got them to make a new order, rack of lamb for my entree and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Food was delicious

The manager has celiacs and he took the time to go though each menu item with me. They offer a variety of creative, delicious entree's, and an extensive wine list. They even have GF dessert! The outdoor seating was perfect!
