Review of Breka Bakery & Café (Kitsilano)

The website lists several of the desserts here as gluten free so I made the journey over. However, when I got there, the items in question were labeled as ‘no gluten ingredients’ which I thought was a bit suspicious. When I tried to find out what that meant, the staff member could not answer my questions and didn’t seem to know what I meant. Eventually she understood and said that their products are not recommended for people who “really care” about gluten because of the way they are made. I was really disappointed to have wasted my journey. I don’t think items should be described on the website as “gluten free” when they’re not suitable for celiacs or very gluten intolerant people. They could easily put the same thing on the website as they have on the labels in the shop.
