I’ve eaten here for years and have never had any problems. The staff are really knowledgeable. When it first opened, the gf bun was terrible, but more recently it’s been much better (so ignore any older comments about it being bad). They had a dedicated fryer for fries, but I would double check that this is still the same.

Not celiac safe. The menu is clearly marked with Gf/gfo (option) but there were discrepancies like one black bean burger was gfo but the other wasn’t, same with some sauces were inconsistently labeled. The server was clueless to what was correct, and when they asked someone in the kitchen the answer was inconclusive. I got a beyond burger with a gf bun and it was toasted on the same grill as the gluten buns, they did not notify me in advance despite me ordering stating I have a gluten allergy, so ask for an ungrilled bun. Definitely an udi’s bun. The fries are supposedly in a dedicated fryer but I am not positive. Cross contamination is almost guaranteed.

My daughter has Celiac. We have eaten there several times with no issues!

There is a 2nd location at West Broad Village near Short Pump. Different vibe, equally delicious food and knowledgeable staff. This is a New Zealand gastro pub. Clean, responsibly sourced food. I am gluten intolerant, not Celiacs, but don't really know. I can tell you I get darn sick if exposed to gluten, but I have never had a problem at either the Carytown or W Broad Village locations. Stay away from any barbecue or hoisin sauces. Try the cilantro dip -- DELISH! GF bun available as well as lettuce wrap. Both carry a $1 up charge. GF cider and sometimes a refreshing ale. NZ beef, lamb, chicken options. Oh, the fries! So yummy. Burger Bach uses heat-extruded, highly refined peanut oil for its fries. My daughter is extremely peanut-allergic and eats safely here, including the fries. We usually start with shrimp cooked in wine, butter and garlic. Avoid the toast points. You won't miss them. Do speak to staff about your specific concerns. They are knowledgeable.
You need to ask which sauces are gluten free- they make them all in house but a few are not safe to eat! I do not think the gluten free bun is worth it (not very good)-- I stick with no bun here. The fries are delish! I love the lamb and the beef- always a difficult choice. Sampling different sauces is always a good idea- some of them you will love and others may not be your thing.
This is BY FAR my absolute favorite place!!! We have came across this burger joint by complete accident while visiting Richmond and it became our absolute favorite place! Everything is made from scratch, they grind local meat at the restaurant and their GF buns are the best I've ever had! I'm gluten intolerant, but I wouldn't trust this place if I was celiac. The staff is beyond friendly, food came out quickly, the restaurant is very cozy and welcoming, but I do recommend making a reservation, because the place isn't very big and it's very popular!

I was driving home from GA to NY. Needed food ASAP that was gluten free. My boyfriend and I read the reviews, sounded good, we decided to stop for a simple burger with my gluten free bun. I could not get the fries b/c the fryer WAS NOT seperate. No biggie. I have Celiac disease and I was so nervous to get sick. I kept asking the server if he was sure I could have the things I ordered which was the Original burger with cured bacon, mayo and thousand island dressing, onions, dill pickle. I had the side salad. He double checked with the chef and I was good to go. NOPE, I GOT SICK. I don't know what it was from, I don't know if they spread the mayo on a regular bun and then spread the mayo on my bun, which would easily get my sick. But now for one lousy burger, I will be sick for weeks. I don't think all restaurants understand what Celiac Disease is. The cross contamination gets me everytime. For all Celiacs, DO NOT EAT at Burger Bach.

Great burgers with gf buns. Dedicated fryer for fries and delicious house made sauces. Yummy seafood options. Local hard cider.
My favorite burger spot in Richmond by a long shot!
Amazing Gourmet Burgers! I recommend the lamb burgers. Expect a wait.
