Their website makes it seem like they are very gluten free friendly but none of what they say is actually what they do. The menu is not labeled GF. The staff is not trained about GF. There are not a lot of GF options. I ended up rolling the dice and getting the ribeye without any seasoning. It ended up working out - after adding some salt the steak was very good and I didn't get sick. I don't know if there has been a recent ownership change but the website does not reflect reality for GF. I would not recommend anyone with Celiac going here for a meal.

I asked about how the kitchen prepares food and I was originally told I was not able to be served. I prompted to walk out and a manger came to me and said that they have food GF. As I went to order food the things labeled on the GF menu, are not gluten free. The chicken the seasoning contained gluten, the wontons and the dressing and the croutons of others are all labeled gluten free but are not. And they refuse to have a new menu.

I recently found this website, so I am reviewing Cafe Alfresco from my last visit which was in July 2017. I had eaten here many times. I ordered the Asian Shrimp, which is marked gluten-free. It listed Crispy Wontons and a Thai Basil Vinaigrette. I specifically asked if the wontons were made from rice as traditionally they are made from wheat. The waiter did not know and although I asked him to check with the chef, he did not, so he did not put them on my salad. My mom ordered the sesame tuna salad, which is not marked as gluten-free. There was no obvious gluten containing item in her salad. However, we were served the same dressing, so I was quite concerned. I asked about our meals with respect to gluten. The waiter went to find out. When he returned he said, "There's only a little gluten in the dressing. It shouldn't be a problem." Wow!! Fortunately, I had not eaten it. At the end of the meal, the manager came over to say that he was not charging me for my meal, and also that they didn't get the correct dressing in stock -- the gluten-free one -- and substituted it with a similar one that that had a little gluten in it, which isn't a problem. Again, wow! He continued to say that gluten-free is just a fad for people wanting to lose weight! I then politely explained Celiac Disease to him and informed him that food substitutions of any kind should be noted and the customer informed.

Excellent food and the gluten free items are marked on the menu. Great atmosphere. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The only downside to this restaurant is that they do not have a wide selection of gluten free options. Nevertheless, my wife and I keep going back for lunch and we are hoping that they will add gluten free toast or gluten free pancakes as an option for brunch.
