Asymptomatic Celiac

Overall Rating

Review

They have a lot of GF and allergy friendly groceries for sale. I love the Bonté Boules GF fresh-baked breads especially, though they’re sometimes out of stock. They also have West Meadow Farm Bakery GF items like brownies, cookies, mini loves of sweet quick breads like gingerbread, and loaves of their regular breads. Another item I think is worth mentioning is the vegan gf Vermont-made cheese cake in the freezer (cashew-based). Comes in 2-3 flavors.

There are a few prepared foods options that I understand to NOT be celiac friendly because of cross-contamination risk (but might work for people with a milder intolerance): made to order sandwiches and a hot/cold food bar that’s sold by weight. They have real dishes you can use for eat-in and takeout containers.

As a person with celiac disease I have previously asked questions about how they prepare the prepared food and felt they took good precautions to prevent cross-contamination.

I buy only their packaged potato salad, chicken salad, egg salad, roasted veggies, veg chili, meat chili, and a few other things. They also have unpeeled hard boiled eggs for sale. All the prepared foods have the ingredients listed on the label. There are also two types of prepared meals from the PakAfghan brand with rice and either red beans or chickpeas which I love.

I also sometimes have gotten their soup off the hot bar if both soups are GF because the risk of cross contamination seems low enough.

FYI the soup says it’s made without gluten ingredients, so they aren’t claiming it doesn’t have gluten contamination, but when I’d asked about preparation methods they seemed good.

I am asymptomatic so it’s be awesome to hear from others who either are symptomatic or have used a Nima sensor what their experiences have been.

You can eat in their indoor or outdoor dining area if desired and there is free reverse osmosis water, plus metal and plastic silverware, napkins, salt and pepper, and I think there might also be oil packets, vinegar packets, and possibly soy sauce/tamari packets as well. Will try to check next time I’m there.

There is also a microwave you can use to heat food up.

They also sell a variety of hot beverages including teas (hot water + you choose a tea bag), decaf and regular coffees (some are organic and/or fair trade I believe), bone broth, and maybe even hot cider, I forget.
