As a new Petworth resident and recently diagnosed Celiac, I was really hoping I could eat at Crane & Turtle. It has a great reputation and the menu looked awesome. There is no gluten-free menu, but I had high hopes that since it was a small restaurant, they could accommodate my needs. The moment we got there, I explained to the waitress my situation and she was very helpful. She went over the entire menu with the chef and brought me back specific information. She even told me that while the Vietnamese crepe is made of rice flour, it was made in a facility that processes wheat and I should not order it. When do you ever hear that from a restaurant? It made me feel like they were really taking it seriously! The food we ordered was really delicious and beautifully presented. They also had a special, off-the-menu, gluten-free dessert that we ordered. Really tasty macarons with creme fresh ice cream. Mmm!All in all, we had a great dinner that was safe (no reactions at all) at a fantastic restaurant. We will definitely be back!
