Crystal Cafe

Thumbs down on this one. Yes, they offer what they said is a GF bun, & yes, they staff is very friendly & tried to make a safe burger. But I did get sick.

We were in Frankfort, MI a couple of days and on two days we drove over to Benzonia because of the high ratings on this site for Crystal Cafe, and the dearth of options in Frankfort. Unfortunately, they have no idea how to run a restaurant. This is prime vacation tourism season up here, and yesterday the sign on the door said "closed because of short staff". Giving them one more try, we and others who showed up were annoyed to find them closed yet again with a sign saying "their cook quit, do you know one to recommend?..." Seriously, who runs a restaurant with only one cook?

Wonderful staff. Many GF food items. They even had a version of the menu all color coded to show what could be made GF. Great spot! Celiac warning-they couldn't guarantee against cross contamination (nearly no one tries to guarantee) but they seemed on top of gluten free requirements that we felt it was a minimal risk. Neither of my children with Celiac got sick!
