I initially left a very positive review of Dumpling Haus two years ago shortly after I was diagnosed. At the time, they were the only restaurant I had successfully ordered gluten free meals from. Although they are an Asian restaurant, they do not use soy sauce in their dishes, which is a major source of gluten in Asian cuisine. I mostly ordered delivery, and the folks I spoke with on the phone were always happy to answer questions and seemed to have a thorough understanding of celiac-safe gluten free food.
I stopped getting food from Dumpling Haus for a while, not because of anything particular, but just because I was trying to eat healthier. However, I went in a few weeks ago for the first time in a year and a half, and things have changed for the worse. The woman at the register was very impatient and did not seem to understand my questions about cross-contact/cross-contamination. She just kept repeating “It’s gluten free.” To be clear, there was no line behind me, so I wasn’t holding anyone up. Even though I felt uncomfortable, I placed an order for shrimp fried rice and then watched the folks in the kitchen. I do not know for sure if they have designated utensils for gluten free items, but it didn’t look like it. They do not wear gloves, let alone change them before touching different dishes. I ended up tossing my food in the garbage without eating it. I do not plan to go back anytime soon.
