I love eating here. The whole place is gluten free and they have vegan options and substitutions (like vegan cashew sour cream). They have bowls, wraps, salads, soups, smoothies, juices, teas (green, white, herbal), lattes, frappes, coffee and espresso, a variety of bottled drinks, and some other stuff. They also sell their own salad dressings and smoothie kits.

I usually get a bowl because they seem bigger than the wraps but the wraps are good too. I also have gotten smoothies and while pricey (a problem for smoothies with good ingredients in general) they’re a nice treat once in awhile.

The food is healthy and tasty and flavorful in my opinion. I love getting the lime taco bowl with quinoa, extra beans, no cheese (I’m dairy free), and the cashew sour cream. So good!

In terms of allergies other than gluten and soy, I posted a photo of the allergy statement they have up. Sounds like worth a conversation to see whether the precautions they take are enough or not.

Based on reading the menu and my conversation with a staff member, a lot of the ingredients are organic, including the chicken, everything is non-gmo, and the beef is grass fed (but not organic). It feels good to know I’m eating and supporting the people raising organic, non-GMO, grass fed, and/or local food. There aren’t many restaurants around here that serve majority organic food.

Side note: I hope the owners of EcoBean eventually opt for all the ingredients to be organic (and pastured/grass fed, regeneratively grown), and local, fair trade, and/or union made when possible.

I know this may be blasphemous in VT, but it would also be great if more eco-conscious restaurants like this one opted to stop serving beef (because the greenhouse gas emissions from beef production are SO much higher than all other major foods), and publicly explained why. Avoiding or eating less beef is a small thing we can do that can make a disproportionately big impact. And there are so many other meats/foods that can take its place nutritionally and taste-wise. Maybe once the goat industry takes off more in VT we’ll have Barbacoa goat bowls and wraps?? Or maybe we could try Barbacoa turkey or pork? 🤔
