I love being able to go to a restaurant where the gluten items are marked rather than the gluten free items. I always get the fried avocado tacos. Dedicated gluten free fryer and lots of options!!!

Most of the menu is gluten free. I got the house marg. Which was delicious. The pollo chicken rice bowl was fine but it was bland imo but I did eat it after the mexican corn which was packed full of flavor.

We had dinner with my kids here last night and had such a great experience! They have a dedicated GF fryer and everything is breaded with GF flour! Such a treat. The servers confirmed that the only things in the kitchen containing gluten were the flour tortillas. I had a rice and bean bowl with fried fish (because I could!) along with chips and guacamole/salsa. Felt good afterward. Highly recommend for a casual Mexican meal!

I communicated that I had an allergy and they reassured me that they are a very Celiac friendly restaurant and the only thing I could NOT have was the burrito (definitely confirm with them though) and I LOVED the chips and guac and a yummy taco!

Amazing got the chicken tacos! Super sensitive celiac and no reaction! They understood and put down tinfoil on the grill! Chips are also in a separate fryer!

Great tacos! Many gf appetizers. GF coconut cupcakes available for dessert. Service was great. Passing through Portland on the way up to Acadia National Park. Easy off/on highway. Eclectic, trendy part of downtown. Serves burritos in flour tortillas so not dedicated.

Almost the whole menu can be made gluten free, except for the burritos. I got the grande nachos with chorizo which was delicious. I also got the fish rice bowl which had fried Pollock, avocado, cabbage, lettuce, rice, beans, Mexican cheese. Their margaritas were also delicious!! The hostess taking orders at the front was super friendly and helpful also. :)

This place was incredible! Didn’t get sick, I got a tiny bit bloated like an hour later but that’s only from overeating! Most of their menu is gluten free (the burritos and quesadillas are not but those are marked as containing wheat. It’s very nice to see a menu that so much is gluten free that they only mark the wheat. Highly recommend. Only gluten free food. Goes in their fryer so I could eat so much

El Rayo was my GF Mexican dream come true. The menu is unique in that MOST of it is is GF, and what is NOT GF is clearly marked on the menu. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and the quality of the food is fantastic. Also, amazing margs!

I LOVE el Rayo - I come here every time I’m in Portland. They have a fryer that is safe for GF, so you can have chips, fried plantains, fried fish tacos, etc - it’s amazing! Plus everything is so delicious! One of the best places for lunch in the city!

They have safe chips! So hard to find with Mexican food. Most of the menu is already gluten free besides flour tortillas and they are really helpful and knowledgeable. Good food!

Highly knowledgeable staff. I was assured that the chefs know how to prevent cross contamination. I love that the menu is mostly GF and items WITH gluten are marked as unsafe. I had a pulled pork rice and beans bowl that was amazing. Will definitely be enjoying this place when I go down to Portland!

Love this place. Great food and aside from the burritos (flour tortillas) most things are GF and celiac safe. The counter manager told her son has celiac and eats there all the time without issue.
