I really want to call this experience a success. But I can’t. I went there for a big family dinner and didn’t pick the location. I did look at their website before we went and saw they had gluten free options so I felt ok about going. I even looked on the gluten free Des Moines Facebook group, people had visited and had positive experiences. When I arrived, my family had already ordered appetizers and explained how they asked all the right questions and landed on the Ahi Tuna option for me. It arrives and it’s smothered in a brown sauce. I ask if it’s soy sauce, yes, is it gluten free soy sauce, well the chef said if we leave the little breaded pieces off it, then it’s gluten free 🤦🏼‍♀. The soy sauce was not gluten free. I asked to speak with the chef, turns out he speaks Spanish and I don’t. So I asked to speak with the manager. She and our waitress tried really hard to take care of me. I ended up ordering a steak, plain, and baked potato -coated with bacon grease. They assured me the bacon was gluten free. So I ate both. Now I’m sitting here, bloated and looking like I’m 4 months pregnant. Again, they tried really hard but there was a huge level of understanding and education missing.
