Delicious food. Ordered the short rib grilled cheese and truffle fries, and honestly some of the best tasting stuff I’ve had in a long time. Unfortunately, I’m sick a week later, my own fault for eating the leftovers without questioning where I first got sick. Second eating of this food this week has me doubled-over, unfortunately. I want to recommend this place, but not for Celiacs. Ouchie :(

The food here was amazing! We were in Des Moines for the weekend and went here twice. We had the short-rib grilled cheese on a gluten free bun and a Wagyu burger without a bun. Second time we had fried brussel sprouts and the 1/2 chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything was delicious and I had no reaction. They have a dedicated fryer so you have the option of gluten free fries, sweet potato fries, truffle fries or the brussel sprouts.

The service was excellent. We had Christopher as our server and he was tending bar the second night. He was very knowledgeable of the gluten free options and a great bartender! Do not be afraid to ask for your favorite cocktail even if it isn’t on the menu. He is a talented mixologist. He is so friendly, funny and kind. We became fast friends and look forward to seeing him and visiting the Gastro Pub again on our next trip.

The owner was aware that during the dinner rush some cross contamination happened with the fryer so she had the kitchen clean it and replace the oil for us. She came over and chatted with us. We told her about a place in Arizona we visited that made patty melts and using Udi’s gluten free bread and how it would be amazing with their short-rib grilled cheese. She was very open to suggestion and extremely kind.

Overall we were extremely satisfied with our experience there. If you are visiting the area do not pass up this gem!
