This review is for Parilla! (Havana’s outdoor sister restaurant right next door). Holy. Shit. Skip the tourist traps this place is the real deal. Be prepared for a little wait with you meal because they take extra safety steps to cook your meal separately as needed for celiacs. Boy was it worth the wait. We had the elotes, half a dozen oysters that came with house made poblano cocktail sauce, classic mignonette, and a lemon curd- amazing. Then the farm fresh salad, the mixed grill plate… but the best part was my half baked chicken!!!!!!!!! I ended up going to the chef to tell him directly how the chicken changed my life. I ate every single morsel. They play around a lot with spices and are above par with flavor profiles- lots of allspice notes, crispy skin, moist bird, a cilantro dipping sauce for the potatoes, and a small cup of salsa. I will be dreaming of this meal until we return next summer. Drinks are on point, it is a wine bar so there are fantastic options.*edit tried to eat here tonight and they wouldn’t serve me. Said they got new chefs and a new grille and I couldn’t eat a thing and told me to leave.

Knowledgeable staff. Very delicious food. Items aren't marked but the waiter knew what to recommend. It was pricey but would go back again.

We ate at the outside bar, Parrilla. Even though it was cold outside (low 40s), the bar covered the outside with plastic and was comfortable eat in. Our waitress (the bartender) was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross contamination. I had the fish (halibut, normally salmon) and it was very good. There was a large variety of items for me to eat.

This was an unexpected delight! Not the traditional Cuban food I am use to, but absolutely wonderful. We happened on it and sat at the no reservation patio. I had the vegetable mix, husband had meat mix, son had portobello mushroom, sausages and pork belly, daughter had salmon. Not a bite was left!! Friendly, knowledgeable servers. Highly recommend this establishment.

Update: so we liked it so much outside that we wanted to dine inside. Not as impressed. Food was not as good as the outside patio street food. It was mediocre at best. Our waiter told us what was GF and my daughter ordered lamb chops. Just as she was going to take the first bite the waiter came out and told us it was not GF. They then brought her a filet that was raw. So not sure what to think. And we were charged a higher price for the fillet

Cannot say enough about how great this restaurant is. They make you feel like royalty and have the best food in town. They noted my gluten free request on our reservation and I did not even need to remind them of my restriction. They provided little veggie stacks to start followed by gluten free cornbread with an assortment of spreads. The seafood paella was out of this world.

Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and cross contamination. She even brought out gf corn bread so I could enjoy the delicious butters and bean spreads on the table! For my appetizer, I ordered the ceviche which they substituted rice crackers for the masa and I had the poblano entree which was naturally gluten free. I highly recommend for a nice dinner in Bar Harbor.
