Nearly everything on the menu is gluten free. I had the cinnamon swirl French toast which was delicious and my boyfriend who is not gluten free had the scramble and loved it. My stomach is very sensitive and usually hurts if anything is contaminated with even a bit of gluten but this breakfast was perfect. Very helpful and friendly staff too.
The gf burgers are amazing! I wished I lived closer so I could eat here all the time. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent food and lots of options. I am gf/df and even got dessert.
Known as a remarkable and famous breakfast spot with tons of gluten-free options. You might see someone famous if you are lucky. Must try the Carrot Cake Pancakes.
Do whatever it takes to get here. You don't want to miss it! I came here 3 times during my 4 days in LA. Their desserts are divine. I had a burger with crispy onions - wonderful. The pancakes were just so-so but everything else is delicious. Felt very comfortable eating here. They will take care of you!
I have celiac and am extremely sensitive to gluten. This restaurant was amazing - a breath of fresh air! The waitress was friendly and knew what she was talking about. It is so rare to find a place out to eat where I have peace if mind and am not worried about contamination.
Hands down, one of the most AMAZING restaurants I've ever been too. The food is to die for. A separate GF frier, classy ambiance, unending options. Thai spring roles are beyond tasty, baked mac and cheese is surreal, and please, PLEASE do yourself a favor and order dessert! We got the sticky buns, and I can't express how delicious they are. Truly a culinary masterpiece. Honesty worth the drive to LA just to go here for dinner!!!!!
If you go here and skip dessert you're an idiot. I've been GF for 6 years and my companion caught me tearing up when I had my first bite of the Sticky Buns. Crunchy doughy doughnut that literally made me cry. Aside from that? Every item we had was AMAZING. As most reviewers said, nearly all menu items are (or can be made) GF. Waiter asked about dietary restrictions upon meeting us, and the rest is history. Not enough room to say more, but it's all rave and I'll be back soon.
My favorite place to visit anytime I visit LA (which is frequently). It is my only must eat place when here. Great options for celiac/gluten free and also helpful with any other food allergies (I can't eat corn or soy either). I've never had cross contamination issues here and the food is ALWAYS fantastic.
Amazing lunch and breakfast options for sensitive celiacs! Went twice during our stay and loved the food and service!
Loved this place. A sizeable portion of the menu is gf. Also have vegan options and a great menu that calls out nuts as well as other potential allergens. The almond energy pancakes were wonderful!!
Great selection of gf options. The turkey/sun dried tomatoes/herbs burger was great!!! The "bun" was a cornmeal flat bread, which was good but not necessary, as I ate my burger with a fork. They DO have a dedicated fryer, so it was nice to be able to indulge in French fries! Service was a little slow but that was possibly just OUR server...
This place is heaven. I can't say enough about the friendliness, awareness, deliciousness of the food. The variety of options is tremendous... The GF hamburger buns (think cornbread bun) are better than any hamburger bun I've ever had. They just added GF pasta to the menu and not only is it delicious, it's made from red lentils, so it actually has protein! GF pancakes are bountiful and there are delicious dessert options as well... Along with numerous other entrees. Everything is clearly labelled on the menu and the staff is in the loop. Hugo's is an institution. Imagine a local diner that actually had incredible an healthy food.
I love Hugo's! This is one of my favorite restaurants, very safe for Celia's. I love their pumpkin pie.
My favorite of the Hugo's locations - always stellar food and highly GF friendly - celiacs feel safe here! They are always looking to improve themselves - trying new breads and substitutions - if no GF pasta options are avail, try some of their Mac & cheese with potatoes -- you'll be amazed
I am so happy to find this restaurant in my business trip to LA, a paradise for celiac people, so much variety of gluten free food and easy mark, I ate there every single day of my stay. Looking forward for my next trip to LA The food is delicious
Gluten-free flatbread, hamburgers, veggie burgers, French fries, granola, pancakes, desserts
the server was absolutely awesome. not only do I have celiac i can't eat dairy or soy. she made sure that i was not in any danger told the chef herself of my alergies. got the ingredience menu out and went through it with me on my every choice. i felt safe and did not feel like ...oh great here is another one of them, like i have felt at other places. I will for sure go again!!!
the food here is not bad, although there's some quality control issues where a dish is great one week and awful the next. the service, unfortunately, is consistently horrible. expect to spend an extra hour or so waiting for water refills, the check, etc... we've stopped going at this point, not worth supporting a place that cares this little about their customers
Very good food and they are very helpful with gluten free accommodations. I recommend the tacos, they were great gluten free. Also the gluten free brownie sundae is amazing!!
Menu is very easy to read and tons of choices
Love! Love! Love! All items clearly marked GF on menu.
Best gluten free brunch in la!
Clearly labeled menu with lots of GF options...and very yummy too!
Hugos is my favorite restraunt in LA. Their food is amazing, its healthy and local without tasting too "granola". Their staff is really friendly and knowledgeable.
90% of the extensuve menu items are free of gluten, dairy and soy. Vegan cashew cream sauce was wonderful. This is my new favorite restaurant.
This is my favorite restaurant, hands down! There are so many options for gluten-free, vegan, etc., there is something for everyone. The menu is enormous and they are very knowledgeable about allergies and cross contamination. Highly recommend this place!
The Gluten free flat bread is delicious!! I was pleasantly surprised. FYI, I was expecting it to be disgusting. Great service! I didn't give it 5 stars only because they don't have regular mayo. They have a peppered mayo that I believe is vegan. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I will be going back though:)
I eat here once a week at least (and at their other location in West Hollwood for 2+ years). Great food - loads of choice - 1/2 the menu is GF (or can be) & they have a dedicated fryer. Great staff - very knowledgable, celiac aware & never had an issue with cross contamination.
Just wow! What amazing options for someone with Celiac disease, or any food allergies (they really get it) or someone who just wants healthy quality food. Had the turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a vegetable melody, but the most amazing part was their gluten free pumpkin pie. Also you should note that they do not use high fructose corn syrup in their entrees, which is definitely a credit to high quality. The service was amazing and spot on. Never left us wanting for refills on tea or anything and very knowledgeable on entree ingredients. Will definitely go back or recommend.
Sorry to the reviewer who said he got sick, but I go to Hugo's often (once or more a week) and have NEVER been glutened by them. It's also my go-to place when out-of-town GF people are visiting. Menu is so clearly marked and easy to understand, and the food itself is freshly prepared and really good. And I can't resist their GF Chocolate Mousse with a GF cookie on top! BTW - I'm not Vegan, but if you are they have some great Vegan options and Vegan desserts as well.
An AMAZING find. We tried it on a Tuesday night and were totally impressed. We had the chimichurri steak and the special carne asada and we were not disappointed. There were no fewer than thirty gluten free options and everything is clearly marked. Not only do they mark the GF options, they mark everything that can be remade as GF. A total gem.
food is good. service sucks
Hugo's probably has numerous options for those that are only gluten free, but for those that are also vegan, the menu is rather scarce. I was surprised that a "healthy" and "gluten free friendly" restaurant did not have gluten free versions of simple things such as pasta and bread. The food is of decent quality and the atmosphere is artsy. The main thing I should mention is that another waiter told me a few times that certain things (eg the bread basket) were gluten free. Had I not checked and checked and checked again, I might be in the hospital right now. We told another member of the staff who corrected the other waiters mistake but she was blatantly unapologetic. I somehow hoped people in a place like this would grasp the importance of those with special restrictions and allergies.
All entrees are clearly marked, and I double checked with the waitress that the item I was ordering was indeed Gluten free. However, I got extremely sick only 15 minutes after finishing my meal.. felt horrible (stomach ache and fatigue), emergency bathroom breaks AND then a dermatitis herpetaformis outbreak. There is nothing worse than a false sense of comfort... I'm not sure what happened with my food, but I won't be going back to find out.
