I was so excited to learn that the vegan ice cream from here is gluten, obviously dairy and soy free. I think it tastes more like polish water ice! It was so great to learn that this was still a dessert option for my whole family since I could actually get something to eat here as well. Thank you for having this option!

Delicious ice cream. I had a great experience and happened to get a woman with "boss lady" on her name tag, so I assumed she was in charge 😀. Most of their flavors are gluten free and upon declaring my GF needs, she went to the back to use a different scoop of ice cream separate from the shared scoop area. She, at least, seemed very knowledgeable and I was able to enjoy safely. I can't speak for all staff knowledge, but she was fantastic.

My husband and I went here three times during our stay in Berlin. The owner/manager was knowledgeable about the ice creams that were gluten containing, but also had a list of the uncontaminated flavors kept in the back freezer for those with allergy issues. Many ice cream store workers don’t realize that, for a celiac, using a shared scoop rinsed in a shared water bath is akin to my asking for lemon sorbet and being served cookies and cream. This is one of the first ice cream shops I have been to that understood the cross contamination issue and readily volunteered to check if they had a non contaminated container of a flavor I wanted in the back. This was so appreciated! They took the guilt out of the ice cream ordering process. Maybe that was a bad thing, for my waistline, that is. No gluten free cones offered as available. I would recommend dealing directly with the owner as she knew exactly what the ice cream base was and the ingredients, but her employees were not as knowledgeable.

Website listed flavors with gluten containing ingredients. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Ice cream was delicious and I didn't have a reaction. They use shared scoopers so just be cautious and talk to them about your concerns, they were helpful.

This review is for the Berlin location of Island Creamery. The gluten-containing flavors were marked on their website (but not on the menu hanging on the wall). I had a delicious cup of peanut butter cup ice cream! It did look like shared scoops were used, so I’d recommend asking them to use a new scoop or tub if you’re very sensitive.
