After reading a previous glowing review, I was very disappointed in The Kitchen Step. After reviewing the menu, which looked generally healthy and of fresh ingredients, I asked the server for guidance in what I could order. She said that, as I have Celiac disease, she was concerned about cross-contamination. She didn't think the kitchen could handle my needs. I appreciated her candor, and would not recommend this place.

Simple, Clean, and Satisfying Kitchen Step in Newark Liberty Airport United Terminal A is my new go-to when passing through Newark. Their Romaine chop chop salad is perfectly dressed with steak (upon request) hit the spot after a long day of travel. Cucumbers brighten it, pepperoncinis spice it up, goat cheese adds a lovely tang, and the Italian dressing compliments the savory olives and steak well. The best part is the warm, friendly and funny bartender, Octavio. I also enjoyed the linens as well as the atmosphere with the chatter and camaraderie of the open concept kitchen. Felt homey while on the road.
