They've got a separate allergen-conscious room with fresh tubs of ice cream. They prepared separately with new gloves, extra sanitized surfaces, and a separate delivery to the table. I loved the mint chocolate chip!

Celiac

Review

Disclaimer: this review is only for their ice cream.

We were frequent regulars at Leatherby’s before my Celiac diagnosis, but haven’t been back a whole lot since 2021. Maybe once or twice, and I played it very safe then.

This past Wednesday we visited the Draper location with a large party, three of whom have celiac disease. We told our waiter, Bo, that there were 3 gluten allergies at the table. He said “My mom has Celiac disease, so they sat you at the perfect table.”

He then proceeded to warn us that any non dessert food items he would not consider not safe, due to very high levels of CC in their back kitchen area. No shared fryer for fries, lots of breading, etc.

No worries, we were only there for ice cream. He then brought us out an allergen list for all the ice creams and toppings so we could see what had gluten in it. He knew the answer to every question we had, and guided us away from certain items like shakes, as they do clean the machinery, but it is difficult to get all the nooks and crannies cleaned out sufficiently until end of day.

He told us that the regular whipped cream is GF, but he warned us the chocolate whipped cream is not. He told us which sauces were GF, and which were not, but added a disclaimer that they are made in a large pot that does get washed with soap between sauces, but said there is a slight risk of CC. (We risked it because… caramel.)

When my wife ordered her ice cream that wasn’t GF (we know it’s not, but she doesn’t have Celiac) he paused us to make sure we were aware that it had gluten.

He marked all the Celiac orders as such, and then he personally rewashed all the spoons that accompanied our ice cream “just to be safe” and brought out the GF specific orders first.

He was EXCELLENT, none of the three got sick, with completely different orders, and now that we know what precautions they have in place, and what to ask for, we feel very confident coming back.
