Review of Leli's Diner

The menu lists many gluten free items on the menu. However, when you arrive, the waitress delivers water with a straw made of pasta. My wife drank from the straw before we had even seen the menu or talked to the waitress about her allergy. (My wife is not celiac, but she does have a gluten allergy.) The waitress replaced my wife's drink once she knew, but by that point she was already having a reaction. I tried to suggest to the owner that maybe the pasta straws could be on the side, and he went into a tirade about how cross-contamination was just a part of restaurant life and that it was up to the customer to share their allergy. When I said water was served before we could discuss allergies, he just threw his hands up. There was no apology or sympathy. I will never go here again, and would encourage others with allergies to avoid this place, as the owner does not care if the food is safe for gluten allergies.
