Will never go back. Asked about GF before ordering and the server was lovely and very informed. Basically a salad or soup are the only options. GF bread is toasted in same toaster as gluten toaster. Appreciated the heads up and ordered the salad with no bread (I don’t know why they would bother having GF bread and not buying a $20 toaster, but whatever). I ordered the salad and it was served by a different server with a piece of gluten toast sitting on top. I was sitting looking down at the toast and crumbs falling into my salad, mustering up the energy to have to be that celiac person again, or to set it aside and just not eat, when the lovely original server came over and said “I am so sorry, I see they served that with bread on top, and you requested gluten free, let me get you a new one”. I was relieved, and appreciated her being attentive and quietly addressing the mistake. Then the owner, Leonard, burst out of the kitchen, and yelled at me from across the restaurant. He said I will be getting the exact same salad again, and do I know how expensive it is to run a restaurant, and he has to control food costs, and he is sick of food being sent back for GF. He kept yelling as he came to our table, and leaned across the table of the ladies eating beside us, placing his hands on their table, between their dishes, continuing to yell at me. I was mortified and just kept asking him very quietly to please stop, please stop. He said he can’t have a gluten free kitchen and can’t separate for cross contamination. I told him he advertises gluten free soup and he said that’s only because it is too expensive to print new menus and a new sign for out front. I pleaded him to get away from our table. He left and went to the front cash and kept complaining about me from there. Meantime my friend who is dairy free and asked for no cheese on her sandwich, looked down and removed the slice of cheese from her sandwich. We walked out. That was five years ago and I walk by their cafe every day as I select one of the many many wonderful places downtown Charlottetown who provide many gluten free options.
