I went to a new restaurant (a brewery) called the Lil Beaver in Normal Illinois. I called beforehand and was told they could accommodate my need for gluten free and that I could bring my own hamburger buns since they didn’t have any. I get there and sit down and order with the sweetest waitress she was so helpful and understanding. She goes to the chef to make sure that he understood the seriousness of the situation. When he tells her that he won’t accommodate me. She comes out to tell me that the chef that night was being difficult and that I should definitely not eat anything because she knew they weren’t going to go the extra lengths. She then proceeded to tell me that the morning chef is way better at accommodating these types of needs. I left the place crying. It’s been two years since I have gotten diagnosed but still things like this hit me hard. I don’t think that it would’ve if they didn’t tell me on the phone that I would be able to eat there.
