This is NOT a safe place for anyone with celiac disease. We ordered a cheese plate, which comes with lavash, and I asked it to be brought out separately to avoid cross contact and the waitress literally argued with me b/c that’s not how they typically serve it. It was hands down the least safe I’ve ever felt at any restaurant ever. To be fair, this is not a GF restaurant; however, considering I’d eaten there many times before under its former management and experienced the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable, it seems that the new management is not at all concerned about the safety of its guests.

Server seemed annoyed when I said I had celiac disease and didn’t offer any information until directly asked for suggestions and then I had to ask her to please ask the chef if her suggestion was indeed gluten free. Food was tasty but took over an hour and was not hot. Very noisy on a Saturday night.

I noted my allergies under “special accommodations” on my reservation that was carefully communicated to the kitchen prior to my arrival. Server was very knowledgeable and able to guide me on which menu items to avoid and what substitutions could be made to accommodate. A delicious safe and very hospitable dining experience!
Give it a pass, at least for Sunday dinner? Maybe they would be more attentive on a regular night? Server seemed totally unconcerned and I woke up feeling weak lightheaded and with gastro distress.
Visited on June 20 and asked server which items were gluten free. Had 3 choices for an entree after we had placed our orders she informed us that the grits were made in a factory that also processes wheat. Two of the meals contained grits so we gave our daughter the third meal she took 4 bites of the flank steak and I tasted it. When I tasted it I could taste soy and inquired to our server about it. She forgot while my daughter waited and so we had to go find her to get the information. Of course, there was a soy sauce that had wheat. They compensated for one meal but I am not impressed on their knowledge of gluten free ingredients .

We have eaten at Local Roots many times. My husband has celiac and we have found the owner, chef, and staff exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. Delicious local food. We have never left disappointed.
