When I called to see if they had gf soy sauce the person on the phone told me, “yes.” I asked clarifying questions, explained this was for a serious allergy, and would be happy to explain anything to ensure the order was made correctly/safely. The person kept saying they totally understood and would take care of it no problem. When my food arrived the fried rice had no sauce on it, and the mixed vegetables were in a white sauce despite the long conversation about using GF soy sauce/brown sauce. On top of this I ended up getting sick. Overall a very disappointing experience. When I asked the manager about it, he explained their soy sauce has “a little bit of gluten in it, not a lot, just a little. So they don’t use it, but it could have gotten into the food anyway.”
*sigh* that’s not how this works!
There is no such thing as a “little bit of gluten” being ok for those of us with allergies. I wish people would just be honest about if they’re able to take GF precautions or not.
