The menu is clearly marked with items that are gluten free. Had the gluten free pancakes the first time for breakfast, which were delicious. Loved it so much that we went back the next day for breakfast before we left and I had the country breakfast gluten free. Also very good and would go back if ever visiting Cape May again.

I ate there tonight and after ordering the marked gluten free filet dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans I immediately was fighting extreme nausea and stomach pains. Although the meal was absolutely delicious and it really was, it must of contained some kind of gluten possibly in the sauce that came on it.

Awesome pancakes, gf! Blueberry or chocolate chip. Small stack of 2 or leather stack of 3. Had chef make eggs in separate pan (not on the grill) and visit this place every year. Typical wait time to get in 15-30 mins but so worth it.

I want to love this place but they don’t really understand what gluten free means… for example, the nachos are marked GF but the chips are fried in the fryer with cross contamination. I like the food and the ambiance and hope someone can educate them what it really means to mark something GF.

I am very sensitive so they did not have much for me to eat- no dedicated fryer and they do not recommend eating the pancakes because they use the same flat top. They had many options though and would be good for those less sensitive!

Great GF breakfast. There were marked GF items, but other items could easily be modified to be made GF (I got the Chesapeake Bay Benedict with GF toast instead of an English muffin).

There were also multiple options for my vegan friend, and the waitress seemed knowledgeable about the menu and dietary restrictions.

*Note that I’m not celiac but have a history of gluten-induced migraines and brain fog - no migraine after eating here. I don’t typically pick up on small amounts of cross-contamination, though, so I can’t speak to that.

Went there by default when another gluten free restaurant was closed. Was pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent. Had a gluten free beer and ordered the seafood risotto which was labeled GF. It even came with a heated gluten free roll butter and oil and vinegar. Food was excellent and I had no reaction.

Did not find staff knowledgeable about safe practices. They gave my celiac daughter a regular bun even though I asked multiple times for a gluten-free bun and emphasized how important this is. I noticed that the bun seemed too soft to be gluten-free (compared to the harder one on my son‘s burger) and sure enough they confirmed that they mixed it up. They do not have a dedicated fryer even though the waitress told me the fries are gluten-free. Definitely not confident eating here safely.

We went for brunch on a Sunday in August. There was an hour wait but we didn’t feel rushed once inside. The waiter was good and didn’t really mind I ordered the country breakfast (eggs, home fries and ham). The rest of the table ordered regular dishes. I was shocked to see a piece of toast on mine when it came out hit was assured it was gf. It looked very different to my wife’s toast so I was ok.

Overall a good experience. I would go back.

I have celiacs disease and ordered a Bloody Mary, an almond milk latte and a tofu scramble with gf bread. The waitress assured me everything was gluten free and I had one of the worst gluten attacks I’ve ever had. I considered going to the ER I was in so much pain. I called them back after to let them know of this and they said it should have all been gf but I know there was gluten somewhere. There was one other time going here something similar happened so please be careful!

I ordered the blackened fish sandwich— tasty! I can’t vouch for safety/risk of cross contamination due to the fact that I don’t have celiac, just ibs, and my symptoms caused by small amounts of gluten ingestion aren’t too severe. Although, I didn’t have any adverse effects after eating here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they made sure I was taken care of.

We had 2 good dinners here while in Cape May for the week. My son, who has Celiac, did not have any issues with either dinner. HOWEVER, the waitress at breakfast mixed up his GF pancakes with my other sons oatmeal pancakes and my son with Celiac got sick. What makes it worse is that we questioned the waitress several times and she absolutely insisted every time his pancakes were the GF ones. She actually got upset with us for asking. It was clear she was wrong and my son was very sick all morning.

I’ve gotten sick and cross contaminated numerous times here. I keep wanting to try it again because it’s an easy place to visit and looks nice but I got really sick the last time we visited (even after all the precautions)

We have dined at the Mad Batter in the past, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. My wife has celiac disease so I am alway nervous when we go out. Yesterday had a nice dinner, both of us had GF pasta and salad. About 2 hours later my wife didn’t feel well. Woke up this morning with joint pain and was up most of the night. Definitely gluten.

I think the establishment and the staff do try to prevent cross-contamination but it is difficult at best. If you a highly sensitive person with celiac just be very cautious.

This was a great place to eat as a celiac. My experience with dinner was flawless. Only a couple of items that were GF, but the risotto was good. The people were very knowledgeable. My only complaint is that when I we returned the next day and I ordered my breakfast, and asked for GF toast (told them they were for a celiac) they also put home fries (which were not GF) in my order. I would definitely eat here again, but make sure you specify that you cannot have any gluten containing items if you have an allergy!!

Separate gluten free toaster. I did not eat/ask about GF pancakes. I had the avocado toast GF and it was DELICIOUS! Home fries are NOT GF. Waitstaff was knowledgeable about gluten. The Peach Bellini is made with Deep Eddy's vodka which is GF.

Love the vibe at this place. Second time here and won’t be the last. Many gluten free options available, knowledgeable staff. Enjoyed a couple cocktails and a delicious seafood risotto. Recommend sitting on the front porch if available, so peaceful and cozy.

The waitress we had has celiac herself so she was very knowledgeable and honest. My son got a steak and my other son got GF pasta. They were very nice and accommodating but also were realistic about the fact that it’s not a separate kitchen

Cross-contamination can definitely be an issue here. Make sure to ask all the right questions.

I will never go back. They have a gluten free menu but it clearly says on the top both the grill and fryer are not gluten free. I purposely stayed away from items using the grill and fryer, opting for a pasta dish. Before we left the table, I was horrible I'll. Not a little cross contamination I'll, very I'll. I estimated the amount of the check, threw cash on the table and ran out. On a non celiac note it was incredibly loud, the service was slow, and our waitress spoke little English. The latter is really useful when it is also incredibly loud.

Although the gluten free menu has a lot of options, many of them are not truly safe for Celiacs. For example, they list quite a few fried items but then say they don't use a separate GF fryer. I ordered a Gf pizza thinking that would be safe, but I was wrong. It was definitely contaminated somehow and now I've been sick for a few days already. I would not recommend this place to Celiacs.

Very nice place. They cook the pasta in a separate pot of water. Only downside is on the menu it states they can't guarantee the food is 100% safe because it is not a dedicated gf kitchen. Also, they offer loaded fries on the gf menu yet it says they don't have a dedicated fryer on the menu.... I got pasta tho and I didn't get sick and the waitress seemed very knowledgeable. I will definitely be coming back.

Not good for celiacs. They have gf chicken tenders on kid menu, but it is fried in common fryer, so no longer Gf. Also French fries are contaminated. Misleading, but we were able to get a kid burger on Gf bread with a side salad.

Honestly the absolute best bacon I've ever had in my life. I had the Big Batter and it came with gluten free toast, the entire meal was insanely delicious and all of my friends loved it!!!
